REPORTS <br /> 7 <br /> 8 City Administrator Zikmund requested the Council provided staff with direction on how to respond <br /> 9 to residents with SNAP benefits. He noted it was his understanding the City could assist these <br /> 10 residents with rent. He indicated there were three residents in need of assistance at this time. <br /> 11 <br /> 12 City Attorney Riggs reported the Council had the statutory authority to provide grants out of the <br /> 13 General Fund to non-profit organizations operating community food shelves. <br /> 14 <br /> 15 Public Works/Parks and Recreation Director Peterson reviewed when Hillview, Lambert and <br /> 16 Groveland would be rented over the next two months. He noted both Lambert and Hillview were <br /> 17 used as warming houses. <br /> 18 <br /> 19 Council Member Clark explained several residents got together and have been organizing an adopt <br /> 20 a family program to assist with providing groceries for families that were struggling at this time. <br /> 21 She noted she reached out to one of these residents yesterday and was working to brainstorm <br /> 22 additional ideas in the event the government does not reopen by Friday. She indicated there were <br /> 23 850 families in Mounds View that would be impacted if the government were to remain shut down. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 Forest Gregory, Manna Market Food Rescue Ministry, reported he was beginning to see numbers <br /> 26 skyrocket during the food shelf distributions. He stated families are being impacted by the <br /> 27 government shut down and noted Second Harvest had informed him to gear up for SNAP being <br /> 28 shut down.In addition,some additional federal programs may be making cutbacks.He commented <br /> 29 on the drive-up model that was being followed for those in need of food resources. He stated last <br /> 30 year he handed out 4.8 million pounds of food which cost approximately 8 cents per pound. He <br /> 31 explained his operation was fully run by volunteers and encouraged those with extra to consider <br /> 32 donating to the Manna Market. Further discussion ensued regarding the pickup schedule for the <br /> 33 Manna Market, which occurred from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday and Thursday and from 10:00 <br /> 34 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturdays. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 Council Member Clark proposed holding a food pick up event at a City park for Mounds View <br /> 37 residents or that a donation be made to Manna Market for Mounds View residents. <br /> 38 <br /> 39 Council Member Meehlhause inquired if the local Lions groups have been approached for <br /> 40 donations. Mr. Gregory stated Bianca has been working to contact local Lions groups. He stated <br /> 41 he was working to prepare for a major influx due to the government shut down. He explained the <br /> 42 City may benefit by hosting an event in an area of Mounds View that was underserved,noting this <br /> 43 would assist his organization with serving more people in the community. <br /> 44 <br />
