Mounds View City Council October 27, 2025
Regular Meeting Page 6
Mayor Lindstrom commented the immediate concern was what would happen on November 1 if
the government did not reopen. He anticipated the City did not have adequate staffing in place to
get into the food distribution business. City Administrator Zikmund agreed.

Council Member Clark reported after speaking with Assistant City Administrator Beeman she
understood the City did have a food desert and the best place to establish a food distribution
location would be at the Community Center. She suggested the City partner with Pursuit to assist
with providing a food distribution event.

Mayor Lindstrom recommended the City point residents who were struggling at this time to Karen
Meyer at CSC in order to provide grocery money by offering rental assistance through the City's
LAHA dollars. In addition, he suggested the City donate $1,200 to Manna Market in order to
provide additional food assistance for those in need.

Council Member Meehlhause anticipated the Lions Club and Rotary Club would volunteer to assist
with a food distribution event in Mounds View.

Council Member Smith recommended the food distribution event be held at the Community
Center.

Mayor Lindstrom asked what staff had to say about the City getting into the food distribution
business at the Community Center. Public Works/Parks and Recreation Director Peterson stated
he would need to better understand how this is going to work and what events are booked for the
Community Center. He reported if the semis could be located in the rear parking lot and the
distribution could be done outdoors, this could be managed, but if the event were to be moved
indoors, he would need to have further conversations.

Council Member Meehlhause indicated Silver View Park may be another option for a food
distribution event. Public Works/Parks and Recreation Director Peterson agreed this would be
another option for the Council to consider.

Mayor Lindstrom asked if the Council supported directing people to CSC for rental assistance as
well as directing the City Administrator to work with Manna Market to supply food and to
coordinate with the Public Works Director on where the food distribution events will occur. He
stated the Council would have to consider how to find enough volunteers to staff these events.

Council Member Clark indicated a resident met with Mr. Gregory today and she would be
conducting a donation drive for household items.

The Council supported focusing on a food distribution event at this time.

City Administrator Zikmund recommended Council Member Clark spearhead the volunteer efforts
for the food drive.

Council consensus was to recommend staff direct people to CSC for rental assistance as well as
directing the City Administrator to work with Manna Market to supply food and to coordinate with
