Item No: 05F <br /> MOUNDS VIEW Meeting Date:April 27, 2026 <br /> Type of Business: CAA <br /> City Administrator Review: <br /> City or Mounds View Staff Report <br /> To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From: Nyle Zikmund, City Administrator <br /> Item Title/Subject: Resolution 10248 Approving $7,950 for rental <br /> assistance/support. <br /> Introduction: <br /> Affordable housing has emerged as a systemic chronic issue challenging residents across <br /> the nation to secure safe, affordable housing. Mounds View is no exception. <br /> Background: <br /> As you know, recent legislation established and additional sales tax collected for the <br /> specific purpose of proving cities, who in turn administer the funds distributed from the <br /> collection, to address affordable housing issues. Council has had numerous discussions <br /> on this issue and consensus to utilize funds for rental assistance, an authorized expense. <br /> Discussion: <br /> Council directed staff to work collaboratively with the Community Support Center and Karen <br /> Meyer, which we have done throughout our involvement with this client. Ms. Meyer supports <br /> the continued need for assistance. In December 2025, the City Council approved $8,925 to <br /> cover a one-month security deposit and six months of rent, paid monthly. All utilities were <br /> included in that amount except electricity, which has been covered through other secured <br /> funding sources. At that time, staff noted that a six-month extension might be necessary. <br /> We are now requesting that extension for the period of May through November 2026. The <br /> total amount requested is $7,950, which includes a monthly rent increase of$50. <br /> Strategic Plan Strategy/Goal: <br /> A progressive city that is welcoming and desirable destination to all ages and cultures, who <br /> seek progress through partnership, and a place where residents can live, work and play <br /> safely and show pride in the community. <br /> Financial Impact: <br /> $7,950 for May through November, 2026, that will come from the Local Area Housing Aid. <br /> Recommendation: <br /> Council Discretion. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Nyle Zikmund <br /> City Administrator <br /> The Mounds View Vision <br /> A Thriving Desirable Community <br />
