RESOLUTION NO. 10260 <br /> <br />CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION HONORING GERALD AREL AS 2025 CITIZEN OF THE YEAR <br />WHEREAS, nominations for the 2025 Citizen of the Year were solicited by the public and <br />reviewed by the City Council; and <br />WHEREAS, the Citizen of the Year Award recognizes individuals whose service, leadership, and <br />volunteerism strengthen the community; and <br />WHEREAS, Gerald Arel was unanimously selected for this honor based on his exceptional record <br />of service; and <br />WHEREAS, Gerald and his wife, Carol, have been residents of Mounds View since 1986, raising <br />their three children in the community and supporting local schools and youth programs; and <br />WHEREAS, Gerald has contributed extensively to youth development through coaching, school <br />volunteering, and long-term involvement with Irondale youth and high school activities; and <br />WHEREAS, he has been a dedicated leader within the Church, serving on the Pastoral Council <br />since 2007—eight years as Chair—and supporting parish events in multiple volunteer roles; and <br />WHEREAS, Gerald has been an active member of the Knights of Columbus for 50 years, <br />including 13 years on the Council and service as Finance Secretary; and <br />WHEREAS, he has strengthened the civic life of Mounds View through service on many city <br />committees, including the Parks, Recreation & Forestry Commission—where he has served 20 years, <br />seven of those years as Chair—as well as the YMCA Advisory Committee, Organized Trash Options <br />Committee, Tribute Park Committee, and the Master Park Plan Advisory Committee; and <br />WHEREAS, Gerald’s sustained leadership and commitment exemplify the spirit and purpose of <br />the Citizen of the Year Award. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mounds View City Council hereby recognizes <br />and honors Gerald Arel as the 2025 Citizen of the Year for his outstanding service and dedication to <br />the community. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Mounds View extends its sincere gratitude to <br />Gerald for his enduring contributions and for serving as a model of civic engagement for future <br />generations. <br /> Adopted on this 8th day of June, 2026. <br />_______________________________ <br />Mayor Zach Lindstrom <br />__________________________________ <br />Councilmember Gary Meehlhause <br /> <br />__________________________________ <br />Councilmember Sherry Gunn <br />__________________________________ <br />Councilmember Julie Clark <br /> <br />__________________________________ <br />Councilmember Kathryn Smith <br />ATTEST: <br />__________________________________ <br />(SEAL) City Administrator Zikmund <br />
