11 <br />1 previously slowed down drivers coming off Highway 35 have been <br />2 eliminated. Mr. Childs said he was certain the officers would be <br />3 making efforts to maintain safe speeds in that area as well. <br />4 Marks Thanks Congressman Sabo for His Efforts Related t3the City's <br />5 water Contamination Problems <br />6 The Councilmember reported attending a function the previous evening <br />7 where he expressed the above appreciation for the Congressman's <br />8 efforts. <br />9 Historical Committee Efforts to be Promoted in City Newsletter and by <br />10 Council Contact <br />11 Marks indicated his wife had agreed to become a member of the above <br />12 and suggested Ruth Harris, retired St. Anthony librarian would also <br />13 be a good candidate; <br />14 Childs said he was writing an article on the Committee for the July <br />15 15th Newsletter; <br />16 Sundland reported efforts to get memorabilia and plaques related to <br />17 the original Village Volunteer Fire Department, including a plaque <br />18 which has all the names of the first firefighters, which he intends <br />19 to hang on the Council Chambers walls. <br />20 Carol Johnson Thanked for 22 Years of Service <br />21 Before the May, 1988 Financial Summary was ordered filed, Councilmem- <br />22 ber Ranallo observed that this would be the last of such reports <br />23 prepared by Mrs. Johnson who had only a day and a half remaining <br />24 before she retired. He thanked her for all the work she had done for <br />25 both the City and various Councils over the years. His remarks <br />26 generated a round of applause from all who were present. <br />27 Mrs. Johnson thanked them and reiterated that she would actually be <br />28 returning under special contract as Deputy Clerk to work on the <br />29 elections this year. <br />30 CITY MANAGER REPORTS <br />31 June 21, 1988 Staff Meeting Notes <br />32 Mr. Childs reported that: <br />33 *the last half of the above meeting had been devoted to a <br />34 review of the goals set at the February retreat and a short <br />35 progress report on those goals was being prepared for dis- <br />36 tribution later that week and discussion at a later Council <br />37 meeting; <br />38 <br />
