Motion by Councilman Stauffer and seconded by Councilman Sundland to
authorize the AFS members to number the home addresses on the curbs
of the community and to solicit contributions from the residents.
Motion carried unanimously.
Councilman Haik reiterated her interest in having the semaphors at the
intersection of Silver,Lane and Silver Lake Road timed so that the
"Walk" signal is long enough to allow children to complete crossing
the road before the turning signals are put into action. She said one
of the Silver Oak School officials had recently admonished children
for walking from school across Silver Lake Road rather than taking the
school bus because he considered that particular crossing as especially
hazardous. Councilman Stauffer agreed with her that children who live
only 4 blocks from school should be able to safely walk to and from
school rather than ride the bus.
Mayor Miedtke wondered if all the semaphors throughout the state were
set for the same cycle but the Manager said the computerized time cycle
might differ for each signal.
Motion by Councilman Haik and seconded by Councilman Stauffer to adopt
a resolution requesting that the timing for the green "Walk" signal at
the intersection of Silver Lake Road with Silver Lane be extended to
give children ample time to cross prior to the amber "Don't Walk"
signal, and to gauge the "Left Turn" movements so it does not interfere
with the "Walk" cycle. Copies of the resolution should be directed to
the Ramsey County Engineer (Anklan) the Ramsey County Board of Commission-
ers and the Minnesota Commissioner of Highways.
RESOLUTION 76 - 047
A RESOLUTION REGARDING TIMING OF TRAFFIC SIGNALS
LOCATED AT SILVER LAKE ROAD AND SILVER LANE
Motion carried unanimously.
Because of the difficulty of setting a date for the meeting of the
Council and District #282 School Board to consider the transfer of the
Community Services from the City to the school district, the Council
agreed to scheduling the meeting for October 28th in spite of the fact
that several of the Council members might be unable to attend. Time
and place for the meeting will be determined by the Superintendent of
Schools and the City Manager with the preliminary report from the task
force established to study the shift to be presented to the Council
October 26th.
Motion by Councilman Sauer and seconded by Councilman Stauffer to
authorize Northwestern Bell Telephone Company to place buried cables in
the locations they have requested along 29th Avenue N.E. prior to the
completion of that roadway.
Voting on the motion:
