Community Engagement Initiative Presentation. Carissa Schively Slotterback, <br />Humphrey School of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota, presenting. <br />City Manager Casey stated that one of the City 's goal s is to foster and encourage civic <br />engagement and one of the initiatives within that goal is to conduct a citizen 's academy and he <br />contacted the Humphrey School of Public Affairs to discuss the opportunity to create a <br />community engagement initiative with Professor Carissa Schivel y Slotterback. <br />Ms. Slotterb ack stated she is the director of the Master of Urban and Regional Planning program <br />and there are approximately 40 students in this year's program. She stated the students would be <br />working on a community engagement initiative that builds on the idea of a citizen 's academy and <br />will focus on engaging a diverse set of residents. She explained that they propose to develop a <br />community engagement initiative for the City that w ill outline a purpose, outcomes associated <br />with the proposal, key tasks, key activities, as well as examples from other communities that <br />might be tailored for use in St. Anthony. She stated the students will produce high quality <br />documents and the intent is to give students an opportunity to design engagement processes that <br />are tailored to real ci ties, to gain professional sk ill s, and to do work that is re levant to the City <br />and responsive to the City's needs. She thanked the City for this opportunity and r equested <br />feedback on the proposal that she could share with her students. <br />Mayor Faust encouraged the students to reach out to the City Council and the School District and <br />School Board on this project and thanked Professor Slotterback for working with the City. <br />B . St. Anthony Chamber of Commerce Touch-A-Truck Event Presentation. Jan Fillmore <br />presenting. <br />Ms. Fillmore stated that last year's Touch a Truck event received positive reviews from the <br />sponsors , vehicle providers, 39 1h Avenue merchants , and residents with approximately 1,500 <br />people attending. She advised that thi s year's event is scheduled for Saturday, September 13, <br />from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and includes emergency service vehicles, heavy equipment, bouncy <br />houses, face painters, and a performance by the Teddy Bear Band at 12 :30 p.m. She extended <br />the thanks of the Chamber of Commerce to Silver Lake Village/Inland Real E state for its strong <br />support of the event again this year. She stated the Chamber of Commerce is requesting the <br />temporary closure of 39•h A venue between Chipotle and Northwest Eye Clinic and added they <br />will coordinate with the Public Work s staff on setting up barricades and requested that Public <br />Works staff notify Metro Transit as some bus routes will be affected. <br />Motion by Councilmember Stille, seconded by Councilmember Roth, to approve the temporary <br />closure of 39 111 Avenue between Chipotle and Northwest Eye Clinic on Saturday, September 13 , <br />2014 , from 9:00 a .m. until 3:00 p.m.
