Information sheets outlining the Smoke Alarm Requirements for Residential 1 <br />Occupancies and Smoke Alarms in U.S. Home Fires Fact sheet were provided to the Council. 2 <br />Mattie Jaros gave an example of a smoke alarm sound. All residents are invited to attend the Fire 3 <br />Department Open House that will be October 3th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. New this year, the 4 <br />Village Big Rigs will be in the south parking lot. There will be a lot of fire and safety messages 5 <br />for the kids and the adults will have blood pressure checks as well. Information about the Open 6 <br />House has been distributed in the schools and they are hoping to see a lot of families attend. 7 <br /> 8 <br />Mayor Faust noted when homes are being remodeled, smoke detectors and CO detectors are 9 <br />checked to make sure they are properly installed during the home inspection per State Statute. He 10 <br />asked when a home is sold is there any inspection done. Chris Fuller stated if a home inspection 11 <br />is done it will be brought up but it is the law that every home have smoke detectors. The Fire 12 <br />Department is relying on everyone’s good faith and their desire to be safe. 13 <br /> 14 <br />Councilmember Jenson asked if the Open House will be advertised on the marque in front of 15 <br />City Hall. Mr. Casey stated it would be. 16 <br /> 17 <br />Chris Fuller stated they have great attendance every year and go through 500 hotdogs. Maddie 18 <br />Jaros stated they have increased the hotdog count this year so hopefully they are prepared. 19 <br /> 20 <br />Mayor Faust thanked the Fire Department for the work they do and their outreach to the 21 <br />community. They practice what they preach when you carry along with you those extra smoke 22 <br />detectors that are loaned to residents needing them. Mayor Faust noted they are diligent to get 23 <br />the loaned smoke detectors returned within a reasonable time. 24 <br /> 25 <br />B. Ordinance 2015-05 an ordinance Amending Mayor and City Councilmembers Salaries 26 <br />(2nd of 3 readings) 27 <br /> 28 <br />Mayor Faust reviewed this ordinance amendment would increase the monthly salary for the 29 <br />Mayo r and Councilmember’s by $50.00 per month. To comply with Minnesota State Law, this 30 <br />ordinance will take effect January 1, 2016. The Mayor’s salary will be increased from $675 to 31 <br />$725/month, the Mayor Pro tem’s salary will be increased from $613 to $663/month, and the 32 <br />Councilmembers’ salary will be increased from $550 to $600 per month. For historical purposes, 33 <br />the last time this ordinance was amended was three years ago in 2012. This is the second 34 <br />reading of this ordinance amendment. Mayor Faust stated this is the only compensation the 35 <br />Council receives. He stated it’s not enough to pay the Council for what they do but it’s enough of 36 <br />a stipend. 37 <br /> 38 <br />Motion by Councilmember Gray, seconded by Councilmember Brever, to approve Second 39 <br />Reading of Ordinance 2015-05 an Ordinance Amending Mayor and City Councilmembers 40 <br />Salaries. 41 <br /> 42 <br />Motion carried unanimously 43 <br /> 44 <br />VII. REPORTS FROM CITY MANAGER AND COUNCIL MEMBERS. 45 <br /> 46 <br />Mr. Casey stated the Village Big Rigs is a new program for this year.
