14 City Council Regular Meeting Minutes April 11, 2000 • Page 14 I As noted in the memorandum,the Planning Commission, Staff, and John Shardlow(City's con 2 sulting planner) held a worksession to discuss how best to proceed with the project. The Com- 3 mission determined that the City's best interest would be served if it proceeded with a new three- 4 step approach (in lieu of Hillcrest's request). Said approach would (1) amend the City's 5 Comprehensive Plan to accommodate an Office/High-tech designation; (2) change the City Code 6 to allow for Planned Unit Developments (PUD's); and (3) to have Hillcrest proceed with the de- 7 velopment of the Apache Plaza under the newly created PUD process. 8 Morrison wished to remind the Council that Assistant City Manager Isom would be attending the 9 Planning Commission meetings. 10 X. REPORTS FROM COUNCILMEMBERS. 11 Sparks reported that ACTION (Adults and Children Together in Our Neighborhood) is having a 12 meeting on Wednesday, April 12, 2000 to promote intergenerational events over the next year. 13 The meeting is scheduled at 8:00 a.m. at the high school. 14 Additionally, ACTION would be mailing a newsletter which will go to all parents of students in 15 the district. ®16 Horst reported that on Thursday, April 13, 2000, the Chamber was hosting their annual meeting 17 and invitations have been mailed. The Business of the Year would be announced and the 18 evening promised to be eventful and interesting. 19 Hodson reported that recently the Sports Boosters and charitable gambling had approved a 20 $7,500 grant for ACTION. 21 Cavanaugh reported that on Saturday, April 15, 2000, a second meeting regarding VillageFest 22 would be held. Additionally,the Finnish/American Youth Art Exchange Grand Opening would 23 be held on Thursday, April 13, 2000 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. He noted the 24 exquisite artwork displayed on the flyers advertising the event and wished to commend Ruth 25 Ann Marks and her committee on the outstanding job performed organizing the Art Exchange. 26 Additionally, Cavanaugh announced that the Art Exchange would be open on Friday, April 14 27 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. 28 to 5:00 p.m. 29 Cavanaugh directed City Manager Morrison to add a presentation on Central Park redevelopment 30 to an upcoming Council agenda. The intent would be to update the three new Councilmembers 31 on the Park and to bring all members up to speed on the progress. Morrison responded that he 32 had envisioned this update to take place at the joint meeting with the Parks Commission on June •33 12, 2000.
