WAM aon ROL commmon The Metropolitan Waste Control Commission took the following actions in January: The Commission approved a contract with the Minnesota State Planning Agency to develop a data base and mapping system for the interceptor sewer system at a cost not to exceed $280,000. The Commission said a computerized interceptor sewer database and mapping system is essential to preparing a five- year interceptor sewer management plan. The Commission approved three contract amendments for engineering services related to the expansion and/or upgrading of three wastewater treatment plants: $1 .7 million to Short, Elliot, Hendrickson for the Empire plant expansion; $2.56 million to Rieke, Carroll, Muller Associates for the Blue Lake plant expansion and upgrading; and $2.7 million to HDR TechSery for Seneca plant expansion and upgrading. The Commission awarded Barbarossa and Sons, Inc. a $6.2 million contract to build a new sewer project on St. Paul's north end and east side. The Trout Brook Interceptor Sewer Project is designed to improve water quality by separating storm and sanitary sewer, thus helping prevent the overflow of untreated sewage into the Mississippi River. The Commission awarded a $884,709 contract for a building expansion and pump capacity increase for the Lake Virginia Lift Station. The project is one segment of the Lake Ann Interceptor Projects, designed to provide additional sewer capacity for western Lake Minnetonka communities. The Commission named Bruce Baumann vice chair and JoEllen Hurr treasurer for 1988. Paul McCarron was named to the Employee Relations Committee. The Commission set the following meeting dates for 1988: the regular monthly Commission meeting will be held 3 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month; the Operations and Budget Committee will meet 3 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month.
