5. If a light rail transit system is funded for construction through Columbia Heights, the City will <br /> study the station areas to determine whether or not there should be changes in land use nearby <br /> and also to consider public improvements, such as street realignment, street closings, or <br /> sidewalks, that would promote the use of the system. <br /> 6. The City will publicize the expected location of the three LRT stations in its community in order <br /> to promote the use of this new travel mode and also to make the general public more aware of <br /> the easy access Columbia Heights will enjoy to and from the central city. <br /> 7. The City will work with the Metropolitan Transit Commission to create new or improved bus <br /> waiting stations along new cross-town routes that would serve the planned L•RT system. <br /> 8. The City will review major new developments for the inclusion of bus.shelters.and pull-outs if <br /> such sites are along MTC bus routes. <br /> 9. The City will continue to do what it can to facilitate transit service by the Columbia Heights/ <br /> Hilltop/Fridley Share-a-Ride Program,-Eastside Neighborhood Services, Metro Mobility and the <br /> Anoka County Traveller. <br /> 10. The City will continue to design and maintain its roads and to review site plans according to the , <br /> functional classification system of road illustrated by Figure 6 in order that they serve the needs <br /> of the community and enhance regional efforts to reduce traffic congestion. <br /> I 1: The City will, protect_the function of collector and arterial roads by limiting the number of <br /> driveways or intersections to a number compatible with the function of the roadway. This policy <br /> will be especially important along Central Avenue. The use of shared driveways and the use of <br /> intersecting streets for site access are two ways roads such as Central Avenue can he protected. <br /> 12. The City will continue to maintain its local road system to high standards of quality through a <br /> program of regular patching, seal coating and reconstruction. <br /> #9423 42 <br />
