- 3 - <br /> Storm Windows and Doors: All windows must be supplied with storms, and <br /> storms are to be in acceptable condition. Storm doors are required <br /> except where the interior door is of a weather resistive type. <br /> Entrance Doors (to outside) : Must be in acceptable condition with <br /> properly installed and operational hardware. No special locking devices <br /> are required if existing door lock is operational . <br /> 7. Automatic Lawn Sprinkler System Protection: An approved protective <br /> valve to prevent backflow/back siphonage water contamination is required <br /> on automatic lawn sprinkler systems only. <br /> ELECTRICAL <br /> 8. Clearance of Electrical Wires: The current height requirement for <br /> electrical service wire is 10 feet above grade, decks, built-in deck <br /> fixtures (benches, etc.), stairs and landings. An exception to the 10 <br /> ft. height requirement was allowed from 1947 to 1955. The National <br /> Electrical Code at 1947 allowed for 8 foot wire heights above ground <br /> only. Therefore, if the structure to be inspected was constructed <br /> between 1947 and 1955, the resulting 8 foot wire height shall be <br /> approved if the following conditions are met. <br /> 1. Current 8 foot height poses no hazard. <br /> 2. Wire insulation is intact and not worn out. <br />_ 3. Overhead wire should rise to about 10 feet above grade - 15 feet <br /> away from the house in the direction of the utility pole. <br /> 4. No decks, platforms or other structures installed or constructed <br /> under such wiring or within 3 feet horizontally of such wiring. <br /> 5. The electrical service is an original installation, installed <br /> between 1947 and 1955. <br /> Exterior Light Fixtures: Exterior light fixtures must be the type <br /> approved for exterior use, safe and properly installed. <br />(, Exterior Electrical Outlets: Exterior outlets must be equipped with a <br /> weatherproof cover, secure and properly installed. <br /> 9. Locks on Certain Type of Air Conditioner Disconnect Boxes: Padlocks <br /> are required on air conditioner disconnect boxes that are not equipped <br /> with an interior dead front protective cover. All other type disconnect <br /> boxes do not require any type of locking device. <br /> 10. Sidewalks: Surface shall be relatively level so that,_..they do not <br /> present a serious trip hazard.
