- 8 - <br /> .Fireplace Hearth Extension: Fireplace hearths that do not meet building <br /> code standards shall be considered a built-in deficiency that is. beyond <br /> reasonable repair. This provision shall apply only to fireplaces. built <br /> in the course of building the home. The above- mentioned exclusion does <br /> not apply to free standing woodburning stoves, fireplaces inserts or if <br /> the fireplace has been altered. <br /> 26. Auxiliary Heat Source - In General : The appliance must be in good <br /> condition. <br /> Gas Spaceheater: Gas valves and piping must be in good condition. A 6 <br /> inch or greater clearance from heater to all combustibles must be <br /> maintained. Any spaceheater in a bedroom must have proper combustion- <br /> air intake and exhaust direct to exterior (no combustion-air can be <br /> taken from bedroom living area). <br /> Wood Stoves and Solid-fuel Appliances: These must be part of .an <br /> approved and listed system and installed as per manufacturer' s <br /> specifications. Unlisted appliances must have to be removed or modified <br /> to meet proper clearances to combustibles. <br /> Incinerator: Any existing unit must be removed and all connections <br /> disconnected and permanently capped. <br /> WATER HEATER <br /> 27. Condition: No leaking and in a safe and operable condition. <br /> Venting: Flue must be in good condition. All joints must be secured <br /> with metal. screws. If the vent connects with the furnace flue <br /> (smokepipe), it must do so with a 450 saddle junction when possible. <br /> Venting into metal chimney liner via furnace vent connector or directly <br /> into metal liner inside masonry chimney is required. <br /> 28. Pressure/Temperature Relief Valve: Must be a legal operable 3/4 inch <br /> valve installed such that the temperature senser is within the tank in <br /> the top 1/3 section of the heater. . An existing valve might be tested or <br /> replaced - if conditions warrant, (e.g. excessive corrosion or age, <br /> sediment'build-up-, etc.) . <br /> Drop Leg (Drain Pipet: A 3/4 inch drop pipe must extend from relief <br /> valve down to within 18 inches of the floor. <br /> 29. Water Heater Gas Shut Off Valve:, Must be easily operated without the <br /> use of a tool . <br />
