Parks Commission Meeting Minutes June 4, 2001 Page 3 1 Mr. Hartman stated that what Ms. Olivier presented was accommodating what the Parks 2 Commission has been requesting. . 3 Mr. Anderson asked about the mechanical and custodial space. Ms. Olivier stated that there were 4 about 185 sq ft. intended for mechanical and custodial space. Mr. Kost stated that whatever is 5 planned for storage would be necessary and used. 6 Commissioner Zurbey stated that the extra$60,000 from Scheme A to Scheme B seemed to buy 7 them a lot. 8 Mr. Hartman asked what Ms. Olivier intended to put out to bid. Ms. Olivier stated that she 9 thought somewhere between Schemes B and C. She stated that they could do add alternates in 10 the bid. 11 Commissioner Zurbey suggested they examine the true use of the building. Chair Jindra said she 12 thought there were several things that would keep the building occupied: family reunions, 13 birthday parties, etc. 14 Representative from Community Services, Diane Skrivseth stated that she agreed with_Ms. 15 Olivier to go with Scheme B, and cited the larger windows as important: 16 Ms. Olivier agreed with Chair Jindra and stated that the building could be used for several more 17 purposes than simply as a warming house. 18 Chair Jindra mentioned the similar building at New Brighton and stated that the building would 19 be used for things other than park functions, and that a cheaply constructed building would need 20 to be upgraded soon. She stated that it is important to do it right the first time. 21 Ms. Olivier stated she agreed with Chair Jindra and indicated that the character from Silver Point 22 Park would carry down to the Central Park Pavilion, if they went with Scheme B with some 23 additions. 24 Ms. Olivier stated that the contingency in the Central Park Pavilion was built in at 15%. 25 Ms. Olivier stated that the Commission could go with Scheme A, add the larger windows back 26 in, and addition some of the other,features found in Schemes B and C. 27 Commissioner Zurbey suggested that they go with Scheme B, at least, and look at the Park 28 proposal, in relation to the decision on the building. 29 Ms. Olivier suggested that they go with Scheme A, with the larger windows and the stainless 30 steel for the base bid, and place other features from Scheme B as additions. Mr. Kost agreed.
