R , <br /> I The Councilmember indicated she had run into Skip Humphrey at Rosedale <br /> 2 a few days before Christmas and had gotten his promise to bring whatever • <br /> 3 pressure he could on the Army to make an expeditious settlement of the <br /> 4 City's water contamination litigation. <br /> 5 The Councilmember indicated she was planning on attending the January <br /> 6 18th meeting of the Ramsey County League of Local Governments <br /> 7 legislative session at the state capitol where she hoped to discuss the <br /> 8 proposed 37th/Stinson semaphore with Commissioner Salverda. <br /> 9 Councilmember Makowske also reported asking the City Manager to look at <br /> 10 some signage near the Foss Road lift station which she perceived might <br /> 11 not be in conformance with the City Sign Code. <br /> 12 Sue VanderHeyden Reports Fruitful First Meeting of Persons Interested <br /> 13 in Having a VillageFest and a City Float <br /> 14 Councilmember Ranallo reported a cold had kept him from attending the <br /> 15 preliminary planning meeting for the above, January 10th, and he asked <br /> 16 Assistant to the City Manager VanderHeyden to give that report instead. <br /> 17 Ms. VanderHeyden indicated that she, as well as Apache Promotions <br /> 18 Director Barb Olsonoski; Fire Department Reserve Rick Lundeen; and three <br /> 19 residents, two of whom had experience with similar pageants in Roseville <br /> 20 and South St. Paul, were in attendance. She said the group had decided <br /> 21 on a VillageFest to be held the weekend of July 20-23 to include a <br /> 22 parade featuring the City's new float. A Miss Apache/St. Anthony <br /> 23 Village queen is also going to be part of the VillageFest celebration. • <br /> 24 The queeen, in 1990, may change to Miss St. Anthony Village with the <br /> 25 intention of participating in the Miss Minnesota pageant. This would <br /> 26 give the community additional exposure. As he had reported at previous <br /> 27 meetings, Councilmember Ranallo reiterated the advice he and Ms. <br /> 28 Olsonoski had gotten at the float seminar they had attended, that the <br /> 29 float's success would no doubt be dependent upon City officials riding <br /> 30 on the float the first few years with perhaps school officials taking <br /> 31 over for the Homecoming Parades. <br /> 32 Ms. VanderHeyden reported tentative plans had been formulated to hold <br /> 33 a St. Anthony Civic Orchestra concert, family games and a softball <br /> 34 tournament as well as a non-denominational church service as part of the <br /> 35 weekend activities. Councilmember Ranallo suggested it might also be <br /> 36 possible to hold groundbreaking ceremonies for the new music shell which <br /> 37 is being planned as the City's way of participating in the 1990 state- <br /> 38 wide celebration. She felt that it would be important to get volunteers <br /> 39 to work on the Float, VillageFest, and Fundraising Committees which are <br /> 40 being formed. The people who were in attendance at the first planning <br /> 41 meetings had indicated they expected good representation from all the , <br /> 42 St. Anthony service organizations as well as from their own friends and <br /> 43 relatives. <br /> 4 • <br />
