Mayor Ranallo suggested this may <br /> be an opportunity to use volunteers. <br /> 4 <br /> 5 Doug Jones, a resident of the City, felt rubbish removal should include <br /> a recycling charge. He stated his experience with a rubbish hauler. The <br /> 7 Mayor felt the City did not want to get into a billing responsibility <br /> R for rubbish hauling. Mr. Jones felt that recycling should be mandatory. <br /> 9 He suggested that one hauler could be responsible for picking up all <br /> 10 of the recyclables. <br /> 11 <br /> 12 The City Manager stated that mandated recycling is coming very soon. <br /> 13 He felt that organized hauling in each city will be next . <br /> i4 <br /> 15 Mayor Ranallo noted that "pooling" of rubbish is taking place in the <br /> 16 City already. He felt the Recycling Committee could make some sug- <br /> 17 gestions on this issue. <br /> 18 <br /> 19 Report of Mayor Ranallo <br /> 20 Mayor Ranallo attended the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Lions <br /> 21 Club. He presented a plaque to the organization from the City. He <br /> 22 was amazed at all of the activities this organization participated in <br /> 23 as well as the fundraising which was done that benefitted the City and <br /> 24 its residents. He noted there is a need for more members as the Lions <br /> 25 Club presently has eighteen members. The meetings are on the second and <br /> 26 fourth Tuesdays of each .month. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 The Mayor received a letter from the Tri-City American Legion requesting <br /> 29 the Council to authorize participation in the Legion' s Fourth of July <br /> 30 Celebration in New Brighton. He requested members of the Council to give <br /> 31 this request some thought. <br /> 32 <br /> 33 The Mayor' s preference is to have some celebration in St . Anthony. He <br /> 34 requested this be an agenda item at the next Council work session. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 B. Report of the City Manager <br /> 37 <br /> 38 a. Status of Filtration Plant <br /> 39 The City Manager thanked the Councilmembers who attended the GAC <br /> 4 0 ceremony. <br /> 41 <br /> 42 Congressman Sabo' s office staff have contacted the City Manager re- <br /> 43 garding their willingness to help with EPA. EPA had contacted the <br /> 44 Congressman' s office and advised that the City has a "fully protected <br /> bS system." The staff is aware that the City is not accepting the system <br /> 46 and will gather more information on the City' s behalf. The faci.lity - - -- <br /> 47 still belongs to the MPCA. Senator Durenberger's office had expressed <br /> 48 a willingness to be of any help necessary to the City. Senator Marty's <br /> 49 staff has also been advised of the situation. <br /> 50 <br />
