Mr. Jay Hartman 5
July 19,2000
Page 3
•
2. Silver Lake Road at 37th Avenue Northeast
Sight distance is not a problem for any of the intersection approaches, thus.no detectors other than signal
mast arm mounted detectors would be needed.
Materials that would need to be purchased from"Traffic Control Corporation would include four (4)
detectors(one for each approach),and the cabinet control equipment needed to operate the system. Cable
for each detector is already inplace at the intersection.
Ramsey County would have minor work to complete at this intersection to make the EVP system
operational, but mentioned that they would not bill the City for this work(since it is so minor).
3. Silver Lake Road at 33rd Avenue Northeast
Sight distance to each intersection approach is good, thus signal mast arm mounted detectors can be used
to properly detect each approach.
Due to the close proximity of the Police Department, it was recommended (per conversations with Jay
Olson and with the Police Department)that an advance detector be.installed to allow for quicker response
• of the signal system to emergency police traffic..This additional detector would be installed at the east
Police Department driveway, north of 33rd Avenue and approximately 300 feet east of Silver Lake Road.
Police traffic would need to be educated to use this driveway instead of the driveway onto Silver Lake
Road (north of the intersection) to access the signalized intersection during emergency calls.
Materials that would need to be purchased from Traffic Control Corporation would include five (5)
detectors (one for each approach, and one for the advance detector), the cabinet control equipment to
operate the system, and cable for all five detectors (no cable for EVP equipment is inplace at this time).
Hennepin County would have minor work to complete at this intersection to make the EVP system
operational (approximately 2 hours of labor and minimal materials). The County estimated that this work
can be completed.for approximately $100.
As with Ramsey County,an agreement between the City-and Hennepin County would need to be completed
for this EVP system(and for the'other four systems on Hennepin County roads)to account for maintenance
of the EVP system. The City would be billed by Hennepin County for any maintenance work to the EVP
system that the County would be required to do.
4 New Brighton Boulevard WSAH 881 at 29th Avenue Northeast
Sight distance for northbound and southbound New Brighton Boulevard and for westbound 29th Avenue
is good, and detection for these approaches can be accomplished with signal mast arm mounted detectors
only(no advance detectors). For eastbound 29th Avenue, due to a curve in the roadway and a hill west of
the intersection, two detectors are recommended for this approach (mount on the signal mast arms for
eastbound and westbound traffic).
