Parks Commission Meeting Minutes <br /> March 13, 2000 <br /> Page 3 <br /> • <br /> 1 Commission previously and requested an area that could be utilized for ramps and skateboarding. <br /> 2 Jindra stated that it is her understanding that the skateboarders are looking for an open space in <br /> 3 which to set up ramps and they ideally would like the area in the park. She suggested <br /> 4 considering a temporary area for skateboarding until a more permanent area could be <br /> 5 implemented into the Central Park redevelopment. <br /> 6 Additionally, Jindra stated that she had become aware of an organization entitled ACTION <br /> 7 (Adults and Children Together In Our Neighborhood), of which City Councilmember Amy <br /> 8 Sparks is a member. Jindra stated it was her understanding that the ACTION organization might <br /> 9 be an avenue that would be willing to provide assistance. <br /> 10 Public Works Director Jay Hartman expressed his belief that it is imperative that a skateboarding <br /> 11 area be included in the redevelopment of Central Park. In this respect, Mr. Hartman distributed <br /> 12 to the Commission a brochure which pictured a permanent type of skateboarding structure and <br /> 13 stated that he could obtain dollar figures at the,direction of the Commission. <br /> 14 Jindra supported providing a temporary structure and then incorporating a permanent structure <br /> into the plans for Central Park. <br /> 16 Ganley reminded the Commission of a previous consideration regarding the utilization of space <br /> 17 on the North side of the Community Center. Jindra agreed it was an initial consideration but that <br /> 18 it is close to the playground area. <br /> 19 City Council-Liaison Brian Thuesen recommended that the Commission meet with Community <br /> 20 Services to obtain feedback about utilizing the space on the North side of the building. Jindra of- <br /> 21 fered to speak with Community Services or to ask Community Services Representative Diana <br /> 22 Roadfeldt to do so. <br /> 23 School Board Representative Denise Dunn stated her belief that there is another group that is <br /> 24 working on the skateboarding issue as well and that grants are being considered. <br /> 25 Council Liaison Thuesen recommended that concrete information and figures be obtained prior <br /> 26 to approaching the City Council for support. <br /> 27 Jindra mentioned that City Councilmember Amy Sparks had requested that a member from the <br /> 28 Parks Commission attend a meeting on the skateboarding issue, but a date had not yet been set. <br /> 29 <br /> 30 Sports Boosters Representative George Zurbey suggested the possibility of the upper level of the <br /> �1 high school parking lot for an area that could be utilized for the summer for skateboarding. <br /> 32 Jindra suggested that School Board Representative Denise Dunn present this matter to the School <br /> 33 Board for consideration. <br />
