• City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br /> September 22, 1998 <br /> Page 3 <br /> 1 factors are being considered, including the size of the stockpile, its aesthetics and affect on the <br /> 2. safety of Central Park. <br /> 4 Ms. Jindra stated the bids are due by October 7, and the Parks Commission had changed their <br /> 5 meeting to October 8 to discuss the bids. She added decisions will be made by the Parks <br /> 6 Commission and presented to the City Council at the October 13 public hearing. <br /> 7 <br /> 8 Ms. Jindra requested a press release be drafted regarding the public hearing on October 13 to <br /> 9 include a diagram depicting proposed changes to Silver Point Park. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 Ms. Jmdra stated the Parks Commission wishes to move forward with plans for the Watertower <br /> 12 Park since the site has no flooding concerns and there is little grading to be done. She added in <br /> 13 view of the potential stockpiling it will be necessary to have additional play space. She stated the <br /> 14 Parks Commission requires the Council's approval to proceed. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 = Ms. Jindra stated the Parks Commission had discussed the possible sale of the Salvation Army <br /> 17 camp and is vehemently opposed to residential rezoning of that land. She added if the land is <br /> 18 retained by the Salvation Army,the Parks Commission wishes to pursue a joint program or <br /> agreement with them. <br /> Mayor Ranallo urged the Parks Commission to begin planning for Watertower Park. Ms. Jindra <br /> 22 stated the Commission had presented preliminary figures to the Council last spring for this project <br /> 23 but no progress had been made since then. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 Cavanaugh asked whether a conceptual plan for approval by the City Council could be presented <br /> 26 by the Parks Commission. Mr. Mornson stated Bob Kost,BRW, would be consulted after a <br /> 27 conceptual plan had been received from the Parks Commission. <br /> 28 <br /> 29 Jane Hintz, 3503 Maplewood Drive, stated playground equipment for the renovation of Silver <br /> 30 Point Park might be obtained at a discount if decisions are made this fall. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 Ms.I3mtz expressed concern over the stockpiling of dirt in Central Park questioning whether <br /> 33 storm water run-off would be a problem. Mayor Ranallo stated a silt fence would be installed to <br /> 34 prevent such a problem from occurring. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 Ms. Jindra stated the stockpile might grow to a height of 26-30 feet. She added play equipment <br /> 37 vendors had confirmed 1998 prices would only be available through the end of the year and would <br /> 38 increase in 1999. <br /> 39 <br /> 40 Cavanaugh asked whether the Commission had considered-the type of picnic shelter to.be <br /> installed. Ms. Jindra stated the Commission hopes to design similar shelters for the other parks <br /> A thus creating an aesthetic uniformity. . <br /> 44 <br />
