City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br /> April 25, 2000 <br /> Page 12 <br /> 1 Chief Engstrom pointed out that there are two new programs for the Year 2000, which include a <br /> 2 bike patrol and alcohol compliance checks. <br /> 3 Horst asked about details of the bike patrol and Chief Engstrom responded that the community <br /> 4 would be patrolled and in the residential areas as much as possible. One intention is to promote <br /> 5 personal contacts with the citizens and Chief Engstrom believes the bike patrol will be an asset <br /> 6 for the community. <br /> 7 Thuesen offered his support for the bike patrol and inquired if the DARE program continued to <br /> 8 be successful at the schools. Chief Engstrom stated that the program has been a tremendous <br /> 9 asset for the community and provides an avenue for interaction and connections with the officers, <br /> 10 kids, parents and the school. <br /> 11 Cavanaugh thanked Chief Engstrom for his presentation and stated that, on behalf of the commu- <br /> 12 nity, the City would like to express its appreciation for the excellent service the Police <br /> 13 Department has provided. <br /> 14 C. Cily Manager. <br /> City Manager Michael Momson reiterated that three town meetings were held last year in con- <br /> junction with the Police Departments and that City Staff is coordinating with the Police Depart- <br /> 17 ment to hold another town meeting. The purpose will be to discuss crime watch and the Mayor <br /> 18 would provide an update on projects. An agenda is being drafted and the main focus will be a <br /> 19 type of"State of the City" address. <br /> 20 Cavanaugh expressed his opinion that an open house would be good to hold in conjunction with <br /> 21 the town meeting. <br /> 22 Mornson further reported that there was a meeting with the School Board last February, and an- <br /> 23 other meeting scheduled for May 23 before the regular meeting of the Council. Consequently, <br /> 24 the Council meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. <br /> 25 Furthermore,the citywide cleanup date is scheduled for May 6, 2000 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. <br /> 26 Anyone interested in assisting with the cleanup, please contact Public Works Director Jay <br /> 27 Hartman. <br /> 28 Additionally, Friday, April 28,2000 is the date for the volunteer dinner. Mornson encouraged <br /> 29 everyone to attend and said the response so far has been excellent. <br /> 30 Mornson reported that the 29th Avenue Street Reconstruction Project is scheduled for the May 9 <br /> 1 City Council meeting, but could be postponed if the legislative session has not adjourned by that <br /> 2 date. Furthermore, the moratorium issue for the Salvation Army project is scheduled for the May <br /> 33 9 City'Council meeting as well. <br />
