City Council Regular Meeting Minutes 08 March 9, 2004 Page 8 1 ■ Bids for the water treatment plant were due to be opened March 11, 2004, and awarded.at 2 the March 23, 2004, Council meeting. He noted the funding was in place a year ago. 3 ■ Application for building permits for the Autumn Woods project would be made in April, 4 which was a more aggressive approach than planned. He noted the City would see a full: 5 tax benefit from the project immediately. Mayor Hodson asked regarding the value of 6 the project. Mr. Morrison responded the annual taxes would be approximately$36,000 7 per year versus the current.$5,000. 8 Construction on the public works facility was scheduled for completion on May 25, 2004, 9 which was ahead of schedule, and the dedication was scheduled for June 24, 2004 10 between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. He noted tours would be available to Council if 11 members were interested. 12 The Amcon retail center was scheduled for completion by June 1, 2004, at which time the 13 liquor store would be operating, and a Customer Appreciation for the liquor store only 14 was scheduled for June 21 to June 26, 2004. 15 ■ Joint meeting with School Board scheduled for April 5, 2004, at 6:00 p.m. He stated 16 Council was asked to meet at 5:00 p.m. to review goals before presented to other City 17 bodies. He added he was working with the Superintendent on a joint agreement for the 18 recreation funding discussed at the goal setting. 19 ■ Joint meeting with Parks Commission scheduled for April 12, 2004, at 5:30 p.m. 20 ■ Joint meeting with Planning Commission scheduled for April 20, 2004, at 5:30 p.m. 21 ■ Regular Council meetings were scheduled for April 13, 2004, and April 27, 2004. 22 ■ City-wide Cleanup Day scheduled for May 1, 2004. He noted this would be held across 23 the street from the public works site. 24 25 Councilmember Stille stated he attended a leadership conference for newly elected officials on 26 February 20 and February 21, 2004, where discussion took place regarding the importance of 27 vision as it related to accomplishment and implementation of goals. He noted the conference 28 was"well worth my time." 29 30 Councilmember Stille indicated he attended a Legislative Conference with Councilmember 31 Horst, Councilmember Thuesen and City Manager Mornson on March 3, 2004. He stated the 32 League of Minnesota Cities gave ideas regarding what to expect from bills in front of the 33 Legislature. 34 35 Councilmember Stille noted he attended the Parks Commission meeting on March 8, 2004, 36 where work was being done on a grand opening for sometime between the middle of June to the 37 end of June. He questioned how that would blend with the other grand openings scheduled for 38 the end of June and indicated the topic would be discussed at the joint meeting with Council in 39 April. 40 41 Councilmember Thuesen noted he attended the League of Minnesota Cities Legislative 42 Conference mentioned by Councilmember Stille. He agreed it was very beneficial and helped 43 those in attendance understand where the State Legislature was headed. He cited the various 44 speakers during the morning session and indicated there was an opportunity to visit with other 45 lawmakers during the afternoon. He added it should be an interesting, challenging session, 46 especially regarding the budget issues.
