• Honor the Council-Staff Partnership
The challenge here is to respect both the Council's Sphere of Influence and the Administrator/Staff
Sphere of Influence. Reasons for low ratings.
➢ We lack performance measures for staff.
In general, the council manages just right but
there is some to either extreme. All of us have
• tendencies to either go to the far left or the far
right on occasion.
➢ I'm still trying to understand my sphere of
influence outside of the voting process.
s When I get complaints from residents, or have
an idea about what I would like to see happen,
I pass it on to staff. I feel like I'm providing
quality control or performance feedback to staff
and sometimes meddling in their work. Other
times, my comments seem well received.
➢ The Council under-manages.
➢ The mayor over-manages (although less than
before).
Things we need to work on.
Performance measurement.
The staff needs to keep involving the entire Council in the decision making process and not
depend solely on the Mayor.
Comments made by Council:
➢ There are some pieces of administrative stuff that I would like to contribute to.
➢ What are good boundaries in this area?
➢ How do we know our boundaries and responsibilities?
➢ We are doing okay in this area. Hopefully the Staff will let us know if we are crossing our boundaries
• or our responsibilities.
8
