Susan Henry
From: Ken Solie [kes789 @att.net]
Sent: Thursday, February 14, 2002 3:57 PM
To: Sue Henry
Cc: Mike Moernson; Steve Levitus; Jerry Cowan
Subject: Ammendment to CUP
Date: 2/14/02
To: Sue Henry
From: Ken Solie and Steve Levitus
Subject: Application for Amendment to Conditional Use Permit
With reference to the Conditional Use Permit ( CUP) which permits candle
manufacturing at 2801 37th Ave. NE, until August 31, 2002, the applicants
are requesting an amendment to the CUP which removes the existing deadline.
Essenco has retained McGinley and Associates to prepare a comprehensive plan
to minimize the fragrances emitting from the building into the neighborhood.
It is the expert opinion of the consultant that installation of the proposed
equipment will reduce the level of emission by 750. The consultant will
have a detailed recommendation available prior to the next planning
commission meeting. The cost of the proposed installation is anticipated to
be between $40, 000 and $50, 000.
The applicants are unwilling to make this investment if there is a
continuing possibility that the complaints of 3 or 4 residents who are
engaged in a campaign to reject the business will result in the termination
of the CUP.
Accordingly, the applicants request that the Planning Commission review a
request to ammend the present CUP at their March 19 meeting, and the Council
act on a request to eliminate the deadline in the current CUP at their April
9 meeting.
The purpose of this application is to provide the business sufficient time
to relocate in an organized manner if the City will not approve its
operation in this Light Industrial District.
1
