Council Meeting
May 22, 1990
page 5
•
1 which is in the interest of the public convenience and will contribute
2 to the general welfare of the neighborhood or community.
3
4 2. The neighbors to this site have expressed a real concern about the
5 desirability of this facility and the necessity for it in their
6 immediate area or location.
7
8 3. Although it might be true that the facility might be a handy storage
9 area for a lot of people, it wouldn' t necessarily contribute to the
10 general welfare of a lot of people in the neighborhood or the com-
11 munity at this location.
12
13 4. Therefore, if the proposal doesn ' t meet the criteria established for
14 a conditional use permit, there doesn ' t appear to be any justification
15 for amending the St. Anthony Zoning Ordinance for the proposal .
16
17 5. There is a potential for the City to lose control over this type of
18 use more in the distant than in the immediate future with the pos-
19 sibility of future storage facilities being located in commercial
20 districts which would not be desirable and might be very detrimental
21 to the community.
22
3 Motion carried unanimously
•24
25 B. She felt the tour was very well conducted and noted
38 some participants in the tour were representing prisoner rights' organi-
39 zations and City groups. The tour viewed the cell where an inmate at-
40 tempted an escape. It was Councilmember Makowske' s observation that the
41 environment left one feeling strange.
42
43 Councilmember Makowske will be attending the June 7th meeting of the
44 Regional Transit Board .
