Regular Council Meeting 4
November 13, 1990 •
Enrooth remarked that if the number of people present had attended the
Council meeting when those upset with the ice rink noise problem were
objecting, they probably could have avoided the controversy at this meeting.

Pat Taylor commented from the audience that she learned about the issue
from Makowske. She said the residents don't know what is being discussed
and encouraged better use of the newsletter:

Burt said that the issue was not new, usage is down and there is a budget
crunch. The budget crunch that Burt referred to has occurred in the past
two years called the reduction of aid--federal government to state and state
to city. The City has lost over $150,000 in state aid last year and another
$80,000 going into 1991 in state aid. To maintain status quo would take a
12% increase in taxes.

Dan Statz, 2837 Coolidge, said he shoveled the ice rink so they would have a
safe place to skate. Kids want to keep it open.

Mayor Ranallo thanked the parents and kids who attended the meeting and •
said, "Please use the hockey rink."

Schoollssues
June Stuhr, 3403 Maplewood Drive, introduced herself as a two-year
resident and veteran of the Levy Referendum wars. Her concern about the
loss of the Levy was the impact she believes it will have on the community
and home depreciation. She indicated that some parents are seeking their
own solutions about schools instead of waiting for decisions to be made by
the School Board.

Mayor Ranallo expressed his desire for those on both sides of the Levy issue
to learn more about what is going on.

Marks said that the council is concerned about the impact on the spirit of the
community when schools close.

7. REPORTS

A. Council.

Mayor Ranallo attended the library meeting on October 25 and encouraged
the director to restore the hours. The City will be on a grace period until
May of 1991. He thanked Mark Kozlak for also attending and speaking on
the issue.
