City Council Regular Meeting Minutes
January 25, 2000
Page 5
1 Additionally, Ms. Jindra stated that Central Park is a serious focus for the Parks Commission.
2 She continued by stating that the Commission is actively working with BRW, the design firm,
3 and that those'architects are now keenly aware of the Commission's goals.
4 Consequently, the Commission is now in a position to request a site survey and is also looking
5 forward to receiving input from the school. The Commission's goal is to complete the Park
6 without asking for additional tax money.
7 In connection with the Village Green project at the St. Anthony Shopping Center, Ms. Jindra
8 stated that appealing new developments have become available for the Parks Commission's in-
9 volvement. Additionally, there are other potentially smaller projects that she would elaborate on
10 at a later date. But all in all, the Parks Commission has a number of projects for the coming year
I I and Ms. Jindra is delighted with the new members on the Commission.
12 City Manager Michael Morrison stated that Ms. Jindra, Public Works Director Jay Hartman, and
13 himself, had a meeting and discussed pages 30-33 of the meeting packet. These pages included a
14 letter from Bob Kost of BRW dated December 21, 1999 which outlined the tasks to be performed
15 for the Central Park improvements. In this respect, Morrison would recommend that the Council
0 6 make a motion to state that the Parks Commission may continue-working with BRW and move
17 forward on the Central Park improvements as depicted in the December 21, 1999 lette r. In other
18 words, the Council needs to approve some budgetary items in order for the Parks Commission to
19 proceed.
20 Horst expressed concern about the total anticipated cost ($81,500) of Tasks I through V as de-
21 picted in the December 21, 1999 letter.
22 Morrison stated that, realistically, Task I and Il would probably be completed this year, and that
23 the Year 2000 would be considered as more of a design phase.
24 Ms. Jindra clarified that the Parks Cominission needs enough funds to order the site sur-vey as a
25 basis for the Commission to continue from a planning stage. The actual figures for Central Park
26 would come at a later time, she stated, but Task I is the first step.
27 Motion by Horst to approve $6,500.00 for Task I pursuant to the letter from Bob Kost, BRW,
28 dated December 21, 1999.
29 Motion carried unanimously.
30 Mayor Cavanaugh thanked Ms. Jindra for her attendance and input to the Council.
031 B. City Manner.
32 City Manager Michael Morrison directed the Council's attention to his memo dated January 20,
