Review of the Amendment to Chapter 16 re: Setback Requirements for Shol2ping 2 Centers. 3 Ms. Moore'Sykes reported a Planning Commission public hearing will be necessary in 4 regard to this issue in January or February, 1997. She explained this amendment 5 addresses the definition of shopping centers and allowing in unique situations the 6 forgoing of the setback requirements of usual platted lots. She noted the example of 7 Apache Plaza. This amendment would allow for reduction the restrictions to allow for 8 continuing development of Apache Plaza. 9 Chair Bergstrom asked if this definition of"shopping center" would conflict with the 10 definition.of"shopping center"in Section 1400.04, Subd. 27 of the sign ordinance. I I Commissioner Franzese noted that the defu-dtion in Section 1400.04 was more specific. 12 It included a minimum of 75,000 square feet, common ownership and parking provided 13 for use in common. She suggested the definition be deleted from Section 1400.04 and 14 noted it was placed there originally as it was not listed anywhere else. . 15 Commissioner Makowske noted there were four differences in the definitions. In Section 16 1400.04 the use of the term"occupant", the requirement of mote than,75,000 square feet 17 of area, and parking provided for use in common,'and in Section 1635.35 the reference to 18 "multiple ownership". 19 Chair Bergstrom noted these definitions need to be parallel. 20 Commissioner Gondorchin questioned why the number"four"was chosen as the 21 minimum number of service establishments. 22 There was Commission consensus that the intent of the proposed ordinance was good. 23 There was direction to Staff to bring the concerns and questions to the attention of City 24 Attorney and obtain his opinion. 25 26 VIII. -CONE'dENTS. 27 A. Commissioners. 28 Commissioner Franze"se stated she had noted that the bonding bill which was passed was 29 not included on her tax statement. She has contacted the Finance Director and he is 30 investigating. 31 Chair Bergstrom congratulated Commissioner Franzese on her re-election to the 32 Hennepin County Park Commission. 33 Commissioner Makowske reported he had been elected as President of the St. Anthony 34 Orchestra Board of Directors.
