Parks Commission Meeting Minutes
January 29, 2001
Page 4
Mr. Hartman asked about the bathroom by the tennis court. Ms. Olivier asked how much space
they want to take for that bathroom and if a unisex handicapped restroom and drinking fountain
is an option.
Jindra stated the park already has drinking fountains so another is not needed in that location.
Ms. Olivier stated it is 100 square feet and with a cost of$150 per square foot, it would cost
$15,000 for one unisex bathroom.
Ms. Olivier stated she does not have the actual materials"nailed down"but they will do a full
blown cost estimate as soon as the floor plan and materials are finalized.
Jindra asked about the position of the pavilion coming closer to the fields. Ms. Olivier stated that
would be better addressed by Mr. Kost.
Mr. Kost stated that issue has not yet been addressed since the Commission had not indicated
whether they supported consolidating the shelters. He noted the patio space for the eight
additional picnic tables and suggested the shape and materials be further addressed to assure it
works well with the play areas.
Jensen noted the cost estimate is quite high. Zurbey agreed and noted the cost estimate does not
include demolition.
Zurbey asked if this can be considered in phases. Mr. Kost estimated that an additional $400,000
would be needed.
Mr. Hartman noted this project has gone from a refurbished structure to new construction.
Andra questioned the cost estimate of$15,000 for the bathroom. Mr. Kost agreed that bathrooms
cannot be estimated based on square footage.
Jindra stated it was agreed to consolidate to one pavilion with a concession stand.
Zurbey stated he does not want this project to be further delayed because an additional $400,000
is needed. He stated he likes the concept but would prefer to consider it as a Phase H project.
Mr. Kost asked the Commission to first determine if there will be one building or two buildings.
The Commission should then determine how large the one building would need to be and dollar
threshold. Direction can then be given to the architect on the number of buildings and dollar
amount available. At that point, the architect can design a facility to fit that direction.
Mr. Kost suggested that the subcommittee meet again with Ms. Olivier to inform her of that
information and address types of building finishes she should include.
