Parks Commission Meeting Minutes
January 29,2001
Page 6
Jindra noted this will be the main location for baseball play so she wants to assure the fields are
properly drained.
Anderson stated he would not recommend the use of a rubberized play mat since it is costly and
he does not think it is more safe. He stated not using footings would save money but that issue
was not discussed and should be addressed with Mr. Kost.
Anderson stated most times the engineering firms error on the side of over design and expensive
materials to assure that all are satisfied with the project once completed. He explained that when
the final plan is completed, the Commission can make some of those changes.
Anderson stated if the fencing can be done differently, it could save $25,000 to $30,000. He also
thinks the cost of irrigation will be lower. However, they are concerned about the cost for the
lighting which may come in higher due to poor soil conditions.
Mr. Hartman stated over and above this will be about$60,000 in clean up, $52,000 in
engineering, and about$10,000 for PCA costs.
Anderson stated there could also be 50 change orders during the course of this project to address
unknown issues. .
Zurbey noted it may be time to push forward with contributions from the Lions Club and
charitable gambling. Jindra suggested that grant opportunities also be researched.
Anderson commented on a similar park facility and stated he will obtain information on their
usage and covered table space needed for various sized groups. He stated they also have
information on the size of group they can accommodate based on size, parking capacity, and
bathroom space.
Jindra asked Skrivseth and Mr. Hartman to provide information on park usage.
Mr. Hartman suggested the Commission present an update on this project at a Council work
session:
Jindra stated the subcommittee will meet again to further define the plan which will be presented
at the February 12, 2001 meeting.
VII. REPORT/UPDATE FROM ROBERT KOST,BRW,INC.
Jindra asked about the progress to improve the ice rink at Silver Point Park. Mr. Hartman stated
it was designed as a holding pond, not an ice rink. However, it would be regraded next year.
