Page 2— City Electronic Monument Sign
Hall/Community Center front parking lot and the Central Park parking lot (see concept
site plan attached. Staff believes this is the best location because it provides adequate
space and offers the best site lines. The tennis court location is quite close to the
intersection and safety is a concern for that reason. The location directly in front of City
Hall would be centralized; however, it is less than ideal due to the trees blocking the site
lines.
Staff is recommending a 5'6' h X 10'w sign, internally illuminated top section with a red
LED message center (38"h X 10'W) incorporated in the bottom section of the sign. The
LED display with have full graphic and animation capabilities, with 3 lines of 9" high copy
available.
With the proposed sign, a variance will be necessary for copy surface area. In this case,
the City would be able to have up to 80 square feet of copy surface for two or more
tenants; however, with the proposed copy surface of 110 square feet, the City will need
a 30 square foot variance. In addition, the City will need to apply for a conditional use
permit. The sign will be setback 18 feet from the curb line; the City's ordinance
requirement is to be at least 15 feet from the curb line.
Staff has drafted the attached sign policy, which is for informational purposes for the
Commission. The Council will be looking at the policy to go along with the sign approval.
Attachments:
• Site Plan
• Sign Plan
• Draft Sign Policy
