ANTHONY AND INTER-
NATIONAL UNION OF. OPERATING ENGINEERS,
LOCAL NO. 49 ,. REPRESENTING THE ST. ANTHONY
PUBLIC WORKS UNIT
Motion carried unanimously.
Action on the-.resolution which requests Ramsey County post for no
parking that portion of County Road D which runs past Berger Transfer
was deferred for the arrival of Mrs . Roy Stafford who had requested
that action be taken.
Mr. Fornell told the Council it now appears the Metro Waste Control
Commission will require, as a condition for approval of the City 's
sanitary sewer diversion into Minneapolis, the installation of a meter
station which will raise the City's costs substantially since the
station will require more grade to the line. In his January 20th
memorandum,. the Public Works Director had estimated his department
can construct the lines for $21,400. 1ess than the cost estimated by
Short-Elliott-Hendrickson, Inc. and the Manager recommended the work
• be done by the City crews. However, Mr. Fornell advised "there is no
real cash balance in the Sewer Fund, so if you feel this project
should be given high priority, expenses will probably have to be
paid out of the Capital Improvements 10A Fund" . He also enumerated
other sewer projects. he anticipates for the City in the next few
years. Councilman Sundland said he sees the sewer diversion costs as
a better option than shutoff valves for the residences for addressing
the possibility of flooding in the City. Mayor Haik agreed, saying
she believes the Council was given a mandate to correct flaws in the
sanitary sewer. system by the committee of residents which was formed
when heavy rains flooded portions .of the City several years ago.
Councilman Ranallo suggested the diversion could be considered a
capital improvement with. Fund 10A used to pay the costs.
Motion by Mayor Haik and seconded by Councilman Marks to authorize
the City Manager to work with the consulting engineers and Minneapolis
towards the sanitary sewer diversion into the Minneapolis system at
Anthony Road and Stinson Boulevard, with the Public Works Department
to do the construction and restoration work as per Mr. Hamer 's
January 20th recommendations.
Motion carried unanimously.
The Council agreed with the Manager' s recommendations in his memorandum
of January 12th that the drainage problems on County Road E and Stinson
Boulevard should be addressed in two separate feasibility studies.
• Motion by Councilman Ranallo and seconded by Councilman Marks to direct
staff to get engineering proposals for correcting the drainage problems
