They included:
*a second elevator in each building to accommodate senior renters;
*much more storage space;
*provision of more landscaping, including mature trees around the project
site and the pond area;
*walkways in that same area;
*a quality project which could easily be converted to condominiums if market
conditions change in that regard at a later date.
Commissioner Jones concluded his statement by reporting that the people at
the hearing seemed to believe "there was a need for quality rental housing
for seniors in that area." And, in his own opinion, the project before them
that evening met that criteria, the Commissioner said.
Project Manager Commends Chair Franzese for "Constructive" Hearing
• Mr. Yurick said the .developers had been impressed with the way in the Commission
Chair had conducted the hearing. He said things could easily have gotten out
of hand, but "instead of degenerating into a negative meeting, the developers
had been able to incorporate some very constructive suggestions from the public
into the proposal being presented that evening."
Mr. Tushie agreed that the changes in the plan they were presenting that evening
had evolved from input received at the hearing.
The plans he then discussed with the Councilmembers included:
*two buildings, each with 150 units;
*two elevators for each building;
*continuation of green space all around the buildings as well as in the
center of the site;
*the runoff retention pond returned as the project centerpiece with a
network of sidewalks in the area;
*pathways to be wide enough for passage of, emergency vehicles;
*300 parking spaces on site (176 interior, 124 exterior) ;.
*six of those spaces to be sited near the 202 project which is experiencing
some parking inadequacies;
*provision for 35 additional parking spaces in the green island areas
• if need arises later on;
*"lock-type" poles to be located in these areas to provide emergency access
for public safety vehicles.
