-6-
Continuation of Landscaping To Be Negotiatd With Town and Country Owner
• Commissioner Jones suggested Kraus-Anderson might be willing to augment the
green areas next to the grocery store parking lot to further discourage drivers
from driving through this project to reach Kenzie Terrace. Mayor Sundland
said the grocery store manager is already planning a delivery service for the
project seniors and might pressure the owners to cooperate with the City in
this matter.
Tushie Anticipates No Problems in Filling the Efficiencies
Because these would be the least expensive units in the buildings, the Architect
told Councilmember Ranallo he expected the 20 efficiencies would be rented
first.
Additional Amenities Proposed for the Project
The architect said some of the changes which had been made for senior renters
included:
*lockers and storage space for rental , on a one to one basis if possible;
*Community space with associated services, including kitchen and dining
room on the main floor;
*arts and crafts game rooms and lounges on the second and third floors;
*a whirlpool room on the fourth floor;
• *laundry facilities on every floor, similar to those in the Kenzington;
*activity areas around the pond areas, if feasible.
Council Delays Decision to Learn More About Proposed Exterior Finishes
The Developer's proposal for exterior finishes had not changed since the hearing,
Mr. Tushie reported. Brick would still be provided around the front entrances
and bay windows. The rest of the buildings would be finished with lapped siding,
preferably wood, depending on final construction costs. If aluminum siding
is used, it would match that on the 202 project next door.
Councilmember Makowske commented that she was not at all convinced that there
would be the same quality project with so little brick. The architect responded
that he was sorry he had not brought the slides he had shown to the Commission
because they might change her mind about that. He said the Commissioners had
been quite impressed with the pictures of the Conservatory Apartment project
in Minnetonka which, except for a difference in the floor plan, is almost identical
to what the developers plan to do with this building. And, he said that building
has no brick at all .
Councilmember Ranallo commented that, after seeing the Oak Ridge Apartment project
going up along the road to Stillwater, he had realized some combinations of
brick and siding are not all that attractive either. Several of those present
said they certainly agreed with that assessment.
• Mayor Sundland indicated he was convinced the project was a "go." However,
if the other Councilmembers would be more comfortable seeing for themselves
just what might be going up in St. Anthony, he indicated he would not oppose
delaying the final decision until they could do so.
