Councilmember Marks' Report <br /> p Councilmember Marks will be attending the meeting with Representative <br /> 9 Sabo on January 25th. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 He requested a resolution be drafted in support of people serving in <br /> 12 the Persian Gulf. He would like this resolution to be presented at <br /> 13 a future Counci-1 meeting. Councilmember Marks noted that Viet Nam <br /> 14 veterans were not recognized at all . <br /> 15 <br /> 115 Mayor Ranallo requested the reporter from the Bulletin to include an <br /> 6article in the next edition of the newspaper requesting information <br /> 17 <br /> 18 on those serving .in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East. <br /> 19 <br /> 20 d. Councilmember Enrooth' s Report <br /> 21 Councilmember Enrooth reported that the Village Fest Committee has <br /> 22 chosen a President and two co-chairs. Mayor Ranallo has resigned from <br /> 23 the Village Fest Board of Directors. Dick Engstrom will represent the <br /> 24 Kiwanis, replacing Councilmember Wagner. <br /> 25 <br /> 6 On Saturday, January 19th, Senator Marty and Representative McGuire <br /> 26 <br /> held a Town Meeting in the St. Anthony City Hall . About thirty people <br /> 98 attended -as did Mayor Ranallo and Councilmembers Wagner and Fleming. <br /> 29 Some of the issues and concerns raised by those in attendance were <br /> 30 regarding non-payment of taxes by senior citizens, off-track betting, <br /> 31 and increase in cable premiums and rates. <br /> 32 Mayor Ranallo felt some residents are not very aware of what is happening <br /> 33 at the State level regarding finances. <br /> 34 <br /> 35Councilmember Fleming stated that a recent survey sent out by Senator <br /> 36 Marty and Representative McGuire received eight hundred responses. She <br /> 37 would be interested in the responses received from St.Anthony residents. <br /> 38 <br /> 49 Councilmember Wagner is questioning his attendance at the National League <br /> 41 of Cities Conference in Washington, D.C. in light of the budgetary concerns. <br /> 42 He felt he could set an example of fiscal restraint by not attending. <br /> {3 <br /> 44 Councilmember Marks disagreed with this assessment and felt the Conference <br /> ZS offered an opportunity for local elected officials to get a "sense" of <br /> 46 local government which is not available elsewhere. He noted that the <br /> 47 League of Minnesota Cities holds a meeting attended by all representatives <br /> '48 of Minnesota cities with Minnesota senators and representatives which is <br /> 49 very valuable. <br /> 50 Mayor Ranallo agreed with Councilmember Marks' remarks.
