• <br /> 1 REGULAR COUNCIL MINUTES <br /> 2 FEBRUARY 22 , 1994 <br /> 3 PAGE 3 <br /> 4 <br /> 5 searches which have been done by the City Council without the <br /> 6 aid of a search group. He noted these processes were very time <br /> 7 consuming as all the applications were reviewed and it took <br /> 8 some time to get consensus on the Council . <br /> 9 <br /> 10 Councilmember Enrooth inquired if the Group would be willing <br /> 11 to perform only certain parts of the search. Brimeyer <br /> 12 responded he is hesitant to do only parts of a search for the <br /> 13 position of city manager. <br /> 14 <br /> 15 Councilmember Wagner felt the presentation by Brimeyer was <br /> 16 very thorough as to the services which would be performed. <br /> 17 <br /> 18 Brimeyer stated he could shorten the process by not using <br /> 19 announcements and limiting the applicants to a total of forty. <br /> He thinks there are some very good and qualified candidates in <br /> the metro area. He would concentrate on this area which would <br /> 22 be. less costly and take less time. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 The process interview recommended would be conducted over a <br /> 25 two day period. It would be limited to ten candidates who <br /> 26 would meet with the Council in three different environments; <br /> 27 informal, social and work. <br /> 28 <br /> 29 Brimeyer has usually used Friday and Saturday. In the past, he <br /> 30 did not recall any situations where the final candidate <br /> 31 decision was not made by the end of Saturday. <br /> 32 <br /> 33 Councilmember Marks inquired what ballpark figures for costs <br /> 34 may be . Brimeyer responded that an entire process would be <br /> 35 about $14 , 000 . A pared down process which would narrow the <br /> 36 field of candidates and perform the recruiting would be in the <br /> 37 $10, 000 to $11, 000 area. <br /> 38 <br /> 39 Mayor Ranallo recalled the lengthy process employed with the <br /> 40 last city manager search.
