City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br /> July 9, 1996 <br /> • Page 5 <br /> 1 Shawn McAlpine, Director of the Salvation Army stated he was in attendance this <br /> 2 evening to inform the City of the upcoming 75th Diamond Anniversary Celebration <br /> 3 which will be held on September 15, 1996. The Salvation Army has been serving the <br /> 4 needs of children from the St. Paul and Minneapolis area at the Silver Lake Campground <br /> 5 since 1921. Mr. McAlpine invited City Councilmembers and citizens of St. Anthony to <br /> 6 attend the celebration which will include a pancake brunch from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M., at <br /> 7 which time they will be dedicating 2 donated facilities on the grounds. There will be <br /> 8 events from 2:30 to 6:30 P.M. including clowns, an animal show, musical performances, <br /> 9 childrens games, a puppet show, historical display of Silver Lake Camp, craft display, <br /> 10 self-guided tour of the grounds; and several unconfirmed events. The evening will <br /> 11 conclude with an ending campfire from 6:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. The Camp Committee <br /> 12 will be in contact with the City as plans progress to inform the City of the needs for this <br /> 13 event which may impact the City of St. Anthony. They are attempting to secure off-site <br /> 14 parking and shuttle service to reduce the impact to traffic flows and may need assistance <br /> 15 in providing information to St. Anthony users of Silver Lake. He thanked the Council for <br /> 16 the opportunity to share this information and also for their efforts to keep Silver Lake a <br /> 17 recreational lake that can be shared and enjoyed together. <br /> 18 Mayor Ranallo suggested Mr. McAlpine contact Dr. Carr, of the Silver Lake <br /> Homeowners Association. <br /> 20 Mr. McAlpine stated the Camp Committee has been in contact with the Lake Association <br /> 21 and they have offered to donate boats to facilitate tours of the lake. <br /> 22 Morrison asked what type of crowd the Committee was anticipating. Mr. McAlpine <br /> 23 stated they are expecting 500 people if the weather is bad and up to 2,000 is the weather <br /> 24 is good. <br /> 25 Faust asked how many children have attended the camp this season. Mr. McAlpine stated <br /> 26 the camp has served 470 campers this year. <br /> 27 Councilmembers thanked Mr. McAlpine and wished his success with the celebration. <br /> 28 Morrison noted Community Center updates. In the next 60 days, requests will be made <br /> 29 for proposals for furniture replacement for the administrative offices and police <br /> 30 department offices. Requests will also be made for phone and cabling. The Sports <br /> 31 Boosters did approve the $59,000.00 for the additional storage area. <br /> 32 Morrison reported the City is in the process of requesting proposals for a Comprehensive <br /> 33 Plan consultant. <br /> 104 <br /> Morrison noted development updates. The Arbors, Arnie Gregory's townhouse <br /> 35 development on Old Highway 8 may come before the Council with a revised plat to <br /> 1 <br />
