V City Council Meeting Minutes November 10, 1998 Page 3 1 2 Thuesen reported on his attendance at the Chemical Health Coalition youth focus groups, 3 commenting on the opportunity they present for positive community action. He stated he was 4 impressed with the participating youth. 5 6 Thuesen stated he had been in contact with Katherine Hayers, a teacher at Wilshire Park School, 7 who is heading a fundraising effort for victims of Hurricane Mitch in Honduras. He added Ms. 8 Hayers indicated the effort began as a school project but she hopes to encourage community 9 involvement. Ms. Hayers is looking for a facility in which to store and sort.items donated to the 10 effort, and residents interested in assisting can attend an organizational meeting on Thursday 11 November 12 at 10:00 A.M. in Room 112 at Wilshire Park School. 12 13 Faust extended his thanks to the community for the high percentage of voter turnout at mid-term 14 elections on November 3, 1998. He pointed out the high number of voters speaks highly for the 15 City. He also thanked the election judges for their tireless efforts and hard work. 16 17 B.'. Mayor. 18 Ranallo'reported on a meeting on Thursday November 5, 1998 with regard to St. Anthony Shopping Center which was well-attended by retailers in the center. He added plans and ideas 0 were discussed for the future of the shopping center. 21 22 Ranallo reported on his involvement as co-host of the Channel 15 election results coverage 23 which lasted from 8:30 P.M. til 12:30 A.M. on November 3, 1998. He thanked the 50 volunteers 24 involved in the production as well as the staff of Channel 15, adding the production quality 25 improves each year that the results are televised. 26 27 Ranallo stated he will give a State of the City address to the Chamber of Commerce at Chandler 28 Place on Thursday November 17, 1998. He requested the address be posted as an official 29 meeting. 30 31 Cavanaugh stated the Mill City bakery is now open in the shopping center, which specializes in 32 hand-made.European-style breads. He added new retailers such as Mill City are encouraging for .33 the potential and revitalization of the center. 34 35 C. City Manager. 36 Mornson stated the public hearing for the Comprehensive Plan has been deferred to the 37 November 24, 1998 City Council meeting. 38 39 Mornson reported on the progress of the City's internet web page design, which is near completion and expected to be on-line before the end of the year. He added a consultant, 40 NetLink,has assisted with the project. 42
