City Council Meeting Minutes <br /> November 24, 1998 <br /> S Page 4 <br /> l <br /> 2 Cavanaugh urged the City's residents to consider serving on the Planning Commission for which <br /> 3 the City is currently accepting applications. He stressed the importance of community <br /> 4 involvement in this important work. <br /> 5 <br /> 6 Marks reported that a "Homegrown Music" concert was held in City Hall on Sunday November <br /> 7 15, 1998 at which music by local composers was featured, including the music composed and <br /> 8 arranged by Florence Marks. <br /> 9 <br /> 10 Marks reported the Sister City organization is still accepting applications for membership. <br /> 11 <br /> 12 Faust reported on his attendance at the League of Minnesota Cities' policy adoption.conference, <br /> 13 at which the Governor-elect and other government officials spoke. He stated he hopes party <br /> 14 cooperation will produce encouraging results for the City. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 Thuesen reported on his recent phone conversation with Laura Pratt,the Injury Coordinator for <br /> 17 Hennepin County, in which he discussed the High School's recent participation in the Seat Belt <br /> Challenge which encourages teens to use vehicle seat belts. He added the Challenge is a 4-week; <br /> student run program, and last year the City had the lowest seat belt usage in the County. He <br /> 20 stressed the importance of seat belt use and applauded the High School and students involved in <br /> 21 the program. <br /> 22 <br /> 23 D. Ma• <br /> 24 Ranallo stated the Fire Department and Wilshire Park School are continuing their efforts on <br /> 25 behalf of the Honduran Relief Project, collecting donated items for shipment by December 4, <br /> 26 1998. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 E. City Manager. <br /> 29 Mornson stated the engineering firm Rieke Carroll Muller is merging with Short Elliott <br /> 30 Hendrickson, Inc. for broader service provision. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 Mornson reported on his attendance at a meeting with City Administrators from Falcon Heights <br /> 33 and Lauderdale to discuss policy issues with regard to police contracts which take effect in <br /> 34 January for both cities. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 Mornson reported that an update on the Harding Neighborhood appears in the bulletin which <br /> 37 clarifies issues related to flood mitigation efforts. He stated WSB is studying 8 other areas as <br /> 38 potential holding sites, and plans to meet with the Harding subcommittee early in January 1999 <br /> 39 to review the feasibility report. He added a neighborhood meeting will be scheduled for late <br /> January or early February 1999. <br /> 1 <br />
