City Council Meeting Minutes <br /> April 13, 1999 <br /> • Page 7 <br /> 1 Cavanaugh reported that ACTION will hold an Intergenerational Dialogue on Saturday, April 17, <br /> 2 1999 in the high school cafeteria, the purpose of which is to gain perspectives from 5 generations <br /> 3 and brainstorm ideas for the community. He added the dialogue will commence at 9:00 AM and <br /> 4 should be over by 2:00 PM. He encouraged Councilmembers to attend, adding that the group is <br /> 5 very excited about this event. <br /> 6 <br /> 7 Ranallo noted that this year marks the 10th anniversary of VillageFest, and re-iterated the need <br /> 8 for volunteers. <br /> 9 <br /> 10 Marks reported on a recent meeting of the Sister City organization at which the Salo dance group <br /> 11 visit in June was discussed, and noted an added venue. He stated that Salo's Mayor/Manager <br /> 12 will be retiring in a month and the organization discussed ways to honor him. He added the <br /> 13 organization will meet every 2 weeks until the dance group's arrival. <br /> 14 <br /> 15 Faust reported on his attendance at a legislative day held by the League of Minnesota Cities at <br /> 16 which he, Thuesen and Morrison discussed tax, local government, levy limits,redevelopment, <br /> 17 and other issues with elected officials. He expressed the importance of the City maintaining <br /> 18 close contact with the League and state elected officials. <br /> 20 Thuesen reported on a recent Community Services Advisory Council meeting which was spirited <br /> 21 and the discussion was lively. He expressed encouragement that this is a reflection of the <br /> 22 community as a whole as people are watching and aware of what is going on in the community. <br /> 23 He stated a representative from the Sports Boosters brought up the issue of lack of fields in the <br /> 24 community both now and in the future. He added that some discussion ensued with regard to <br /> 25 City involvement in this issue. <br /> 26 <br /> 27 Thuesen stated there is great interest within the community regarding the timetable for <br /> 28 completion of parks construction, as well as the possible sale of the Salvation Army camp. <br /> 29 <br /> 30 Thuesen reported on his attendance at the League of Minnesota Cities' legislative day, which <br /> 31 was interesting and informative. <br /> 32 <br /> 33 H. Mayor. <br /> 34 Ranallo reported that cable operator MediaOne is currently updating their equipment and some <br /> 35 residents may experience outage during the daytime. <br /> 36 <br /> 37 Ranallo noted that the City's sales tax is different from that in Minneapolis, and residents should <br /> 38 specify this when making purchases or paying bills so they are not charged Minneapolis sales <br /> 39 tax. Mornson stated that City staff is compiling a letter which residents can submit to utilities <br /> suppliers, and interested residents should contact City Hall. <br /> 1 <br />
