City Council Meeting Minutes
September 14, 1999
• Page 4
1 Ranallo mentioned that the Kiwanis organization has been generous in donating money to the
2 community. Some examples are the dedication of Water Tower Park, and donations to the police
3 and fire departments for various programs. Ranallo encouraged the community to support the
4 Kiwanis in its fundraising efforts.
5 B. Councilmembers.
6 Cavanaugh stated that he had a meeting on August 25, 1999 with City Manager Mike Mornson,
7 the Fire Chief, a Councilmember from Minneapolis, and residents regarding Sroga's Towing. He
8 reviewed that complaints had been received about noise from the towing company and the meet-
9 ing was productive in arriving at possible solutions to the complaints. Cavanaugh assured the
10 Council'and residents that Sroga's Towing was sympathetic to the residents' complaints and was
11 conducive to working with the City to solve the problems.
12 Cavanaugh also attended a Northwest Family Services Board Meeting. He mentioned that wel-
13 fare reform has been directed towards the county for redistribution and this could mean
14 additional funds locally for the community.
15 Cavanaugh stated he had attended a meeting for Adults and Children Together In Our Neighbor-
hood (ACTION)meeting. The organization is applying for grants and Cavanaugh was pleased to
10 announce.that an anonymous donation was recently received.
18 Cavanaugh reported that he has been working with the City of Roseville and Minnesota
19 Commercial regarding the bump at the railroad crossing on County Road C towards Roseville. It
20 is his understanding that the road is scheduled to be repaired soon.
21 Marks reported that a meeting is scheduled in the near future for the Sister City Association and
22 that the organization's annual meeting will also be held soon. He encouraged the community to
23 join the Sister City Association and invited anyone interested to talk further with him.
24 Faust had nothing to report.
25 Thuesen announced the possibility that the St. Anthony Shopping Center Merchants Association
26 could disband. The main reason for the possible split is low attendance. Thuesen stated that
27 there are other issues, but he would continue to update the Council.
28 Thuesen felt that increased communication would have been beneficial regarding the street
29 project in the south end. Although there have been some weather problems, he believed that the
30 concern surrounding the sodding process could have been avoided with more available
31 information. Thuesen stated that the delays had been explained, but for future projects, it is
32 important to remember that exceptional communication is vital.
33 C. Mayor.
