She urged the Councilmembers to reconsider the
decision.
SallyHaag, 2901 Silver Lake Court, has been a resident for many years and has served on the
Council before. `She would like to support the Councilmembers who turned down the Apache
Plaza redevelopment. She would be nervous to see this development go forward. She believes
the Council should take an overall look at things and encourages the Council to develop a
healthier plan that would support the individuals that are looking for housing near the City in a
good-quality residential community that has the services to support them. She believes this
would even out the tax base.
John Madden, 3701 Foss Road, served on the Kenzie Terrace Task Force, amongst others, and
was on the Planning Commission for several years. He inquired what the tax valuation is for
Apache. City Manager Michael Mornson sdid the valuation is about$5 million dollars, and pays
about $1 million in taxes. Mr. Madden felt the problem with Apache has been studied for too
long, and he was disappointed that the City did not take the advice of the City's hired consultants
or the Planning Commission, and he encouraged the City to reconsider its vote.
Jerry Faust, 4033 Silver Lake Teirace; and he would like to ask the Council to reconsider the
vote against Apache Plaza. He speiit:six years on the Planning Commission, and four years on
the City Council. He noted that the economic times are good now and that this was the best de-
velopment offer that had been offered to the City as of this date. He does not believe that alter-
nate courses are feasible and that all of the City's consultants and advisors have encouraged the
City to go forward with the project. He would believe that their advice is valid. Regarding the
TIF money, Mr. Faust explained that the Apache Project needed some assistance from the City to
make the project work. He noted that there is,always room for compromise and would ask the
Councilmembers to reconsider the Apache Plaza`redevelopment project.
Tom Miller, President of the Anthony Chamber of Commerce, stated that the Chamber was dis-
appointed regarding the vote for Apache. It was the Chamber's understanding that the City
Attorney and City's consultants, as.well as the Planning Commission, were in favor of the pro-
ject. The Chamber was under the impression that the Council was in favor of the project as well.
After the vote, the Chamber wrote a letter to the Mayor expressing their disappointment about
the vote, and received a letter back from the Mayor, but their questions were not answered. On
behalf of the Chamber, Mr. Miller requested that the Council reconsider the decision.
George Wagner, 3407 Fordham Court, noted that he has spoken with the Council before ex-
pressing his support for the Apache Project.:He was surprised that the Council did not heed the
advice of the City's consultants, after hiring'some.of the best consultants in the business.
