-2- <br /> Directorial Sign <br /> • A sign for the purpose of marking specific commercial , industrial or public <br /> locations known as to assist in finding these locations. <br /> Portable Sign <br /> A sign so designed as to be movable from one location to another, and <br /> not permanently attached to the ground or any structure. <br /> Painted Siqn <br /> A sign which is painted directly on the face of buildings, fences, or <br /> other structures as opposed to a message painted on a sign surface. <br /> Temporary Sign <br /> A sign which is erected or displayed for a limited period of time. <br /> Sign Structure <br /> The supports, uprights, bracing, and frame work for a sign including the <br /> sign surface itself. <br /> In the case of a sign structure consisting of two or more sides, when the <br /> angle formed between any of the sides exceeds 15 degrees each side shall be <br /> considered a separate sign structure. <br /> Sign, Gross Surface Area Of <br /> The entire area within a single continuous perimeter enclosing the extreme <br /> limits of the complete message of any sign, which limits shall include the <br /> surface on which the message is affixed unless the individual letters of the <br /> message are affixed directly to the surface of a wall in which case the maximum <br /> height and width shall apply. Such perimeter shall not include any structural <br /> elements lying outside the limits of the sign surface which do not form an <br /> integral part of the sign message. In the case of a free-standing or projecting <br /> sign with two back: to back surfaces, each surface may equal the allowable <br /> gross sign area. <br /> Walt Sian <br /> A sion which is affixed to the front, rear, or side wall of a building and <br /> lies parallel to the building wall . <br /> GENERAL PROVISIONS <br /> A. General Requirements Pertaining to all Districts <br /> 1 . The time limit for the display of temporary signs shall be eight weeks <br /> unless otherwise provided for by this ordinance or by determination of the <br /> Village Council . In general , the criteria for the Council to determine such time <br /> limit shall be an equitable balance between the need for the sign and the general <br /> . welfare of the community. <br /> 2. The owner, leasee, or manager of any ground sign for which a permit has <br /> been issued, and the owner of the land on which the same is located, shall <br /> keep grass or weeds and other growth cut, and debris and rubbish cleaned up and <br /> removed from the on which the sign is located. <br /> 3. Any sign or Sinn structure which may be, or may hereafter become, rotted, <br /> unsafe or unsightly shall be repaired or removed by the licensee, owner, or <br /> manager of the property upon which the sign s'-ands upon written notice of the <br /> Building Ir;spector or Village Police Off icer. <br /> 4.
