Regular Council Meeting August 14, 1990 page 8 1 Councilmember Makowske had no report. 2 3 Councilmember Wagner had attended a Road Task Force Meeting on 4 August 13th and stated he was very impressed with the number of 5 people who attended and their level of commitment. 6 7 National Night Out was August 7th. Mayor Ranallo had attended two 8 of the National Night Out block parties. The Police Chief and an 9 officer had made presentations at these block parties and the Mayor 10 was very pleased with the presentations. He felt this undertaking 11 should be done City-wide next year. 12 13 Councilmember Makowske had also attended a National Night Out 14 block party and was impressed. She noted that City crews had 15 swept, the street before the block party and felt this was a 16 nice service to provide. She noted that this is a service pro- 17 vided for all block parties. 18 19 City-wide Clean Up Day is September 15th. Sue VanderHeyden, Assistant 20 to the City Manager will address this item at the next Council meeting. 21 22 Mayor Ranallo noted that the off-sale profits have decreased and he _ _23 _ suggested this be .discus.sed with.-the Liquor Operations- Manager by 24 the City Manager. 25 26 The City Manager stated he had discussed this matter with the Liquor • 27 Operations Manager and had been advised that the profits in the industry 28 have declined. Other marketing techniques will be used. 29 30 A letter was received from Minneapolis Alderman Walt Dziedzic regarding 31 a walkway from Lowry Avenue to the St . Anthony Shopping Center. The 32 City Manager advised that the Public Works Director has written a letter 33 to the Autumn Woods developers regarding this matter as well as some 34 other items of concern. 35 36 Councilmember Marks expressed some concern with a snow fence which is 37 still standing. It was noted that this had been left in place to deter 38 walkers. Councilmember Wagner advised there is a higher hedge also being 39 planned for the area to block some of the vehicle lights. 40 41 Mayor Ranallo attended the August 6th meeting of the Village Fest Com- 42 mittee at which time it was reported that a slight profit was realized 43 from this year' s festivities so there will be seed money for next year. 44 45 On September 10th the Village Fest Committee will hold a kick-off 46 meeting in City Hall at 7:00 p.m. . This will be an organization meeting 47 for next year's Village Fest. The dates selected for next year are 48 August 2, 3, and 4. It is the intent of the Committee to hold a parade 49 next year and volunteers are needed soon as this project will take some 50 time. The Mayor requested the Bulletin be advised of this meeting. i
