-3-
The meeting was recessed from 8:30 P.M. to 8:40 P.M.
Because there was some question whether Resolution 68-040 establishing a Human
Relations Advisory Committee had not been revised at a later date, the following
motion was made:
Motion by Councilman Haik, seconded by Councilman Sundland to table action on
Resolution 74-030 which would amend Resolution 68-040.
Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Sauer, seconded by Councilman Stauffer to grant approval
to the YMCA to again sell Xmas trees in the St. Anthony Shopping Center subject
to their obtaining the permission of the shopping center owners.
Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Stauffer, seconded by Councilman Sundland to approve the
list of election judges and registrars for the General Election to be held
November 5, 1974.
Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Sauer, seconded by Councilman Sundland to grant approval
to Paul C. Broberg to sell Xmas trees in the Wards Garden Center at Apache
• Plaza subject to his obtaining permission from Wards and the Apache Plaza
management.
Motion carried.
Mr. Frederick Herfurth of the Frederick Herfurth Realty Company who was accomp-
anied by Mrs. Carol Brown appeared to request permission to establish a small
branch office for his realty firm on the property they own at 3901 Silver Iake
Road. The discussion on the request centered around the Council's previous
action as well as the Planning Board's approval of the project which was
contingent upon a retirement complex being built next to the Herfurth property
which plan had been abandoned by Rembrandt Corporation because of lack of
funding. Councilman Sauer said he felt the real estate office would be a good
use for that property and the matter should be referred back to the Planning
Board for immediate action. However, when Mr. Herfurth learned that the Plann-
ing Board was considering his property in their evaluation of the zoning for the
property across from Apache Plaza and that their decisions on the revisions of
the zoning ordinance should be presented to the Council for approval by their
1st meeting in November, he was agreeable in deferring his request until the
November Council meeting.
Geri Evans and Bob Johnson of the Community Services Advisory Committee gave
the recommendations to the Council which their group had formulated. Mr.
Johnson showed a series of slides which illustrated the walkway through the
Salvation Army Camp which the director of the camp, Jim Brown, was seeking to
build with the cooperation of the City for the use of the general public. Mr.
• Johnson said his committee felt the City should contribute to the construction
of the nature trail by donating City personnel and machinery to help build the
chip pathway. He also gave Mr. Brown's proposal of methods of supervising the
use of the trail. Mr. Vickrey and Mr. Dulgar joined the discussion of previous
efforts by the City to cooperate in a similar use of the camp for which the
Chicago office of the Salvation Army had declined to enter into a written
agreement.
