z
Mike Mornson
Page 2
April 20, 1998
- Silver Lake Road—The next stretch of sidewalk surveyed runs
north/south on the west side of Silver Lake Road from 37`h Avenue to St.
Anthony Boulevard. One the east side of Silver Lake Road, the sidewalk
runs from Hilldale Avenue to 29`h Avenue. The overall condition is good
considering that it is asphalt and was constructed in or about 1972. The
reason this has held up is due to continual maintenance that has been
performed by the Public Works Department.
St. Anthony Boulevard—This section of sidewalk runs east/west from
Stinson Boulevard to Silver Lake Road on both sides of the street and also
from Highway 88 to Ridgeway Parkway. The condition of both these
sections of sidewalk is poor. The sidewalk section that runs from Stinson
Boulevard to Silver Lake Road is in the worst condition overall, primarily
do to the age of the sidewalk. The Public Works Department has replaced
many of the sidewalk panels and continues to patch areas with blacktop to
prevent trip hazards. This section of sidewalk on both sides of St.
Anthony Boulevard is in very poor condition and is in need of replacement
It is my recommendation at this time that we use MSA funding to reconstruct and
preserve the few sidewalks that we presently have and focus on using future MSA
moneys to construct new sidewalks in areas throughout the City where needed.
I am currently working on a five year sidewalk improvement plan for the entire City. My
intention is to focus on incorporating additional sidewalk improvements into both county
and MSA projects, as funding becomes available. This would primarily be in areas
where currently sidewalks do not exist.
