1 The School Board Chair indicated that the School District is also working on Y2k compliance. <br /> 2 He indicated that if there are problems with school equipment, the students will be on break <br /> 3 and they will have some time to address any issues that may arise. • <br /> 4 <br /> 5 Dunn reported that the District will be able to keep class sizes down. He reviewed the State <br /> 6 law regarding open enrollment. He indicated that schools are required to participate in open <br /> 7 enrollment at a minimum of 1% of each grade level participating. He reported that without <br /> 8 open enrollment, the District would not be in existence today because they do get funding <br /> 9 based on their level of participation. He also indicated that once a child is accepted for open <br /> 10 enrollment, the school district is required to allow that child to continue in the school until <br /> 11 graduation or the student moves. <br /> 12 <br /> 13 IV. DISCUSSION OF SALVATION ARMY PROPERTY. <br /> 14 The Mayor reported that the City was notified that the Camp may be for sale. He indicated <br /> 15 that at that point, the City Manager and he met with the Camp Commander to obtain more <br /> 16 information. He indicated that the Commander suggested that the Salvation Army may be <br /> 17 interested in selling the Camp so that they could purchase a larger property further north. The <br /> 18 Mayor said that he and the City Manager also met with a local developer who is interested in <br /> 19 purchasing the property to redevelop it into a residential area. He also indicated that he has <br /> 20 heard that the Salvation Army may be interested in selling the property to another non-profit <br /> 21 organization. <br /> 22 <br /> 23 The School Board and City Council discussed idea of jointly forming an ad hoc committee to <br /> 24 discuss possibly purchasing the property and meet with the Camp Commander. It was decided <br /> 25 that the City Manager and the School Superintendent meet to organize the process. <br /> 26 <br /> 27 V.
