r ' <br /> -3- <br /> A <br /> 3-A letter from the St. Anthony J. C.'s regarding expansion of the airport <br /> facilities of the Metropolitan Airports Commission was read. <br /> Mr. Chisholm recommended that the Council oppose the south site as proposed. <br /> Councilman Emond stated that he also was opposed to the south site. <br /> Motion by Councilman Crouse and seconded by Councilman Springer that the <br /> Council support the Ham lake Site and oppose the South Site. <br /> The Mayor called for discussion: <br /> Mr. Gottwalt and Mrs. Sam Bucco expressed concern over both locations and <br /> opposed the North, Ham Lake Site. <br /> James McNulty felt that the Council should be advised as to the impact of <br /> the new jets on the area. <br /> Mr. Gottwalt stated that he was not here to design an airport, but that the <br /> Council should look to the community's interest, and that a particular site <br /> should not be endorsed. <br /> Mr. H aik stated that he felt the proposals have been in the planning stage <br /> for several years. <br /> • Councilman Springer stated that he felt the M. A. C. should be controlled <br /> by representatives of the seven county area. <br /> Mrs. Chisholm expressed the opinion that she was opposed to both the South <br /> Site and the North Site as proposed by the M. A. C. <br /> Councilman Springer requested the chair to withdraw his second to the <br /> foregoing motion. Councilman Crouse asked that his motion be withdrawn. <br /> Mayor O'Connor stated that he was opposed to both the North and the South <br /> Sites as proposed. <br /> Councilman Emond stated that he felt the Council should support the Ham Lake <br /> Site. <br /> Mr. Merrill, 3321 Wendhurst, said that he felt that the present dilemma <br /> was due to lack of action by the peoptGe affected. <br /> Councilman Springer stated that he felt that the Metropolitan Council <br /> acting as a review borad would protect the interest of the residents affected. <br /> Ray Haik felt that one document should be submitted to the M. A. C. pointing <br /> up the inadequacies. <br /> The Council recessed at 10:00 P.M. and reconvened at 10:15 P.M. all present <br /> who answered opening meeting roll call. <br /> • <br />
