-5- <br /> Fireman <br /> 5-Fireman Lee who appeared for a moment to deliver a report was commended by the <br /> Mayor for the courageous action the Fire Department displayed in fighting a recent <br /> fire in St. Anthony. <br /> At the request of Councilman Stauffer a discussion was held on the organization <br /> of the Human Relation Committee for 1974 with Councilman Stauffer expressing <br /> her concern for statistics in a recent newspaper article which seemdd to indicate <br /> problems for the community in the areas of illigitimate births and large proport- <br /> ion of one parent families requiring some sort of aid and was requested by Mayor <br /> Miedtke to meet with the Human Rights Committee at their first meeting to offer <br /> her suggestions on how that committee could use the agencies available to residents <br /> with particular needs of this nature. <br /> Motion by Councilman Sauer, seconded by Councilman Haik to authorize the letting of <br /> bids for the purchase of a sewer rodding machine. <br /> Motion carried. <br /> Mayor Miedtke recommended attendance at the Suburban League of Municipalities <br /> meeting on January 10th as an opportunity for Council members to meet the state <br /> legislators. Councilman Sauer indicated he would attend the meeting. <br /> Motion by Mayor Miedtke) seconded by Councilman Haik to direct the Manager to <br /> write to the Mayor of New Brighton thanking him for expediting the change of name <br /> of Orchard Place to Silver Lane. <br /> • Motion carried. <br /> Copies of the Hockey Rink Schedule were distributed by Mr. Dulgar. <br /> Motion by Councilman Sauer, seconded by Councilman Haik to table action on the <br /> request from St. Anthony American Legion Post #513 for an On Sale Liquor License <br /> for their club rooms until the legion members make a formal presentation of their <br /> intents and needs. <br /> Motion carried. <br /> Meeting recessed at 8:55 P.M. and reconvened at 9:10 P.M. <br /> Letters received from Rep. Joseph Karth, Roland L. Elliot, Special Assistant to <br /> the President and Mrs. Rosalie Rilley regarding the energy crisis and Council <br /> action on decorative lighting were filed as informational. <br /> As requested by the writer, Mayor Miedtke read the letter of January 2, 1974 from <br /> John B. Hatcher, 3104 Silver Lake Road regarding the snow plowing practices of <br /> the city during the energy crisis. <br /> Mr. Vickrey's opinion on the agreement with Constructive Design, Inc. for the <br /> renovation of the Stone House was discussed and Mr. Dulgar suggested that a meet- <br /> ing of the architect and the Harrison House be set up so that their activities <br /> could be coordinated as requested by Councilman Haik. <br /> Motion by Councilman Sundla.nd, seconded by Councilman Sauer to direct the Manager <br /> to negotiate with the architect the points in the contract which the Council <br /> wants changed and return to the Council with an agreement to sign. <br /> Motion carried. <br />
