Voting on the Stauffer amendment: <br /> Aye: Sundland, Sauer, Stauffer and Miedtke <br /> • Nay: Haik <br /> Motion on the amendment carried. <br /> Councilmen Haik said she opposed the amendment because the Council was still voting <br /> on proceeding with the construction of 29th Avenue to a 9-ton, 40 ft. design and <br /> she wanted the steering committee to consider some creative alternatives to that <br /> design. She mentioned thb experience that City of Minneapolis had with the parkway <br /> they had converted Stinson Blvd to and said the Park Board had found it was no more <br /> expensive to install the parking bays and that traffic on the parkways in Minneapolis <br /> had either remained constant or diminished and that the speed had been reduced. <br /> She also said she didn't believe closing the street off with a cul-de-sac would <br /> hold up in court. <br /> Motion by Councilman Haik and seconded by Councilman Sundland to table action on <br /> the construction of 29th Avenue until the first Council meeting in September at <br /> which time the steering committee formed of residents+lof 29th Avenue, Council <br /> representatives and a member at large could report their findings regarding the <br /> rebuilding of 29th Avenue. <br /> Voting on the motion to table: <br /> Aye: Sauer, Haik and Sundland <br /> iNay: Stauffer and Miedtke <br /> Motion to table carried. <br /> Motion by Councilman Sundland and seconded by Councilman Haik to designate Councilma.r <br /> Sauer and Stauffer tomork with two representatives of TAP and one other person from <br /> another area of the City other than 29th Avenue who could be acceptable to the rest <br /> of the steering committee for the consideration of all alternatives to the methods <br /> of rebuilding 29V& Avenue. <br /> Motion carried unanimously. <br /> Mayor Miedtke then designated Councilman Stauffer to serve as Chairman Pro Tem to <br /> call the first meeting of the steering committee but she asked that Councilman <br /> Sauer be appointed in her stead when Mr. Shaffer voiced his objections to her servinE <br /> in that capacity. The Mayor then appointed Councilman Sauer to call the first <br /> meeting. <br /> Mr. Shaffer apologized for any inferences which might have been drawn from his <br /> remarks regarding Councilman Stauffer's ability to be objective regarding the project <br /> The meeting was recessed at 10:00 P.M. and resumed at 10:20 PM. <br /> Councilman Sundland left during the recess. <br /> • The Engineer then reported on the compacting and sodding work being done by the <br /> Lamppa Construction Co. in connection with Water Improvement Project 1974-1 and <br /> the following motion was made: <br /> Motion by Councilman Sauer and seconded by Councilman Stauffer to direct the Enginee2 <br />
