City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br /> February 12, 2002 <br /> Page 5 <br /> 2 Larson reviewed the category sales for the different stores: <br /> 3 • Store#1 had 47%of their sales from beer, and 28% of sales from liquor <br /> 4 i Store#2 had 40%of their sales from beer, and 32% of sales from liquor <br /> 5 <br /> 6 Larson reviewed where their customers are coming from. He highlighted that 15%of <br /> 7 their customers for the Stonehouse are coming to them for lunch, and then making a <br /> 8 purchase in the liquor store before they leave. However, store number two has only 5% <br /> 9 of their customers coming from other areas that do not border the City of St. Anthony. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 Larson indicated that they attribute their success to their product selection, an aggressive <br /> 12 advertising plan, competitive retail pricing, and a staff that goes the extra mile. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 Larson reviewed the status of the Stonehouse, highlighting a$3,000 decrease in sales, but <br /> 15 $5,000 saved on repairs and maintenance. <br /> 16 <br /> 17 Larson provided the Council with a recap of 2001 activities which included the <br /> 18 Villagefest"Kick-off party in the parking lot", the Stonehouse golf tournament and"Pig <br /> 19 Skin Pick's"contest. He also highlighted the numerous wine tastings which earned them <br /> 20 the award for"Best Wine Selection" in the annual "Reader's Choice Awards"held by the <br /> 21 Lillie Suburban Newspaper in 2000 and 2001. <br /> 0 Larson indicated that goals for 2002 consisted of improving the beer and wine selections, <br /> 24 installing a camera system for the operation, continue staff product information and <br /> 25 customer service training,re-design store layout at both stores, attempt to defeat the Wine <br /> 26 and Grocery Store Bill, and attain a faster credit card processing system. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 Councilmember Thuesen thanked Larson for his succinct presentation. He indicated that <br /> 29 he always suspected that the two liquor stores had very different customer-bases, as was <br /> 30 illustrated by Larson this evening. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 Councilmember Faust commended Larson and his staff on their successes. <br /> 33 <br /> 34 Councilmember Sparks asked when the majority of food is sold at the Stonehouse. <br /> 35 Larson indicated that the lunch hour is where they sell the most of their food. <br /> 36 <br /> 37 Mayor Hodson thanked Larson for his outstanding presentation, and his staff for their <br /> 38 success, dedication and hard work. <br /> 39 <br /> 40 VII. Resolution 02-026—Approving Amendment to Standing Rules for Conduct of City <br /> 42 Council Meetings. <br /> 43 Councilmember Sparks stated that she opposed two of the rules that were proposed to be <br /> deleted: "This privilege is also extended to those members of the audience who wish to <br /> 16 provide input. The Mayor may rule out any input felt to be redundant, superfluous or <br /> 46 irrelevant." Councilmember Sparks stated that she felt that the effect was to decrease the <br />
